I decided to dodge the raindrops today, and work on the truck, since I have had it 4 days now, and hadn't waxed it yet.

So ..
Wash with Meg's Gold Class Car Shampoo
Dried with Waffle Weave
seams blown dry with compressed air
removed dealership vinyl logo on the tailgate
Clayed
Meg's ScratchX used on a couple of places from sitting on the lot
Meg's #7 with PC on 3.5 with 9006 pad removed by hand with MF towels
Meg's #21 with PC on 4.5 with 9006 pad removed with MF bonnet on a 7006 @ 3.5
NXT Paste Wax by hand, removed with Microfiber towels

I have been working on mostly muscle and show cars lately, with the occasional luxury or exotic .. I had not done a truck in a long time .. I had forgotten how much work a big truck like this is ..

don't let anyone ever tell you that a new vehicle does not need to be clayed. the truck had 39 miles on it, and this is brand new clay, and from doing an area 18" square on the hood.

good job. tell me about the new car needing clay mine was horrrible whne i bout it i clayed it for 3 hours easy before i even started waxing. the dealer slaps armoral on everything and when u pick it up the salesman sais wow the guys really cleaned it up nice for ya huh. its unbelievable.

 

damn!!!! I need to grab my buffer now. that depth in the red paint is amazing

 

Looks good... I clayed mine with less miles than that... mine was much dirtier than that.

 

When I bought my truck the salesman told the lot boy to take my truck and wash it.I said "no that's ok I work at a detail shop I can do it myself."I was thinking to myself it has enough scratches already.

I use regular 3M painters tape from Home Depot or Lowes. It works great and doesn't leave the sticky stuff behind.

that clay kit will work great .. Mother's also has one that works well .. you should be able to pick one up at any national auto parts store .. or order one online..

I just use low stick painters tape, and I usually buy whatever is cheapest, Duck or 3M ..

i only ever see the mothers clay bar in stores near me so thats what i use. i think they are both equally as good.

 

It's also been my experience that the clay kits that are generally available in consumer stores are all on the same level for the most part.

I might give the nod to the 'clay magic' kit over the Meguiar's and/or Mother's kits but, really -- they're all just about identical.

the patent is held by a single company, and it is almost all manufactured by them, then repackaged for the various resellers..

I actually prefer the Mother's over the Meguairs , but it is just easier to order it all at once ..

 

Good job. I gotta say though when I picked mine up, it was flawless, so I didn't touch it for 6 months. I've also heard it isn't good to wax too soon after a car has fresh paint so that's why I didn't. Just wished they stay that nice, but start preparing yourself for many compliments, don't want to sound arrogant. Again, looks nice, keep r' pretty.
