Love my xtang full tilt soft cover... I originally got it for my 97 F150 and it fit just fine on my 13 F150.

My Dad has a hard tonneau cover on his truck and it's a PITA to remove.. He has a 5th wheel trailer, so when he want to tow it, off comes the cover.. He's got a pulley system setup in his garage, but it takes a good 15 minutes to remove it and that thing is HEAVY... Plus, he has to remove 6 brackets that hold the frame on the side rails and that's what really takes all the time..

Anyway, I'd rather just get a full on canopy if I wanted a hard top cover..

YMMV..

I've pretty much decided that the Full Tilt will go on the '03, and the Leer hard cover will go on Craigslist.

I have a Leer 700 hard lid on my 5'5 'dinky' bed truck. It came on the truck and that is the only reason I have it. I have never purchased a bed cover for any of my past trucks. I have removed it twice for hauling purposes and hated it. I absolutely love how it looks on the short bed however. But whenever hauling anything that remotely pokes up to the top of the bed rail it needs lifted and tied down.

It is a nuisance. I would much prefer a harder type of cover that rolls up on rails. But I feel the 5'5 is a close to useless bed and I never use my truck for truck type of duties. I bought a BedRug to make it a giant trunk and I do enjoy it. It keeps everything dry, secure, and clean.

It is awkwardly large and wide compared to the A.R.E lid, and it did look odd on my truck all stock. Especially un-leveled.

But with my bulkier tires and removal of most chrome pieces it fits in with the style nicely.

Overall, I wouldn't do it on a truck that gets worked at all, but if your 5'5 is merely a big trunk, it is great.

I have a snug top (fiberglass) on my 03
And a Bakflip G2 (aluminum folding) on my 2014

I love the look of either cover, the folding is nice for typical "truck duties"
