I just read through the DualLiner thread but didn't want to hijack that guys thread for his truck. That's why I created this one.

I just recently purchased a 2005 F-150 Lariat 4x4. With the truck, the previous owner left a drop in rubber mat, bed extender and a cloth like bed cover. I'm not a big fan of the cover so I removed it and found that the bed has a lot of scratches. I am just not a big fan of the bed being in bad shape but have come to accept the fact that I do have a truck and not a luxury car.

So, my question is really about what options I have to protect the bed from here on out? I'd like to put in a spray-in liner, but I didn't know one could color match it! What type of prices am I looking at for other options?

I know this is really an open-ending question and those don't do well on message boards but I could really use the help. Thanks!

 

My opinion of average pricing for a product that covers the entire bed:

Drop-in plastic bedliner - $150
Bedrug - $350
DualLiner - $350
BedTred - $400
Spray-on, standard black - $450
Spray-on, no fade black - $600
Spray-on, color match - $650

 

Does the standard black fade and is that true across all brands? What about the color match, will it fade?

 

i just got my bedrug from truckalterations.com a week ago and i really like it. haven't hauled anything yet, but so far so good! It looks amazing and was really easy to install.

I considered a spray in liner but 500 was too steep for me. The guy who owns the shop which does spray lining showed me his personal truck and i was not impressed. The spray liner looked like crap. It looked like a really bad spray paint job. To me spray liner is nothing more than permanent spray paint over your factory bed paint. It wont prevent dings or stop anything from sliding around.

Now the bedrug is extremely comfortable to sit or kneel on. It looks really bad ***! Although it secures with velcro, its reallly strong velcro. Plus you dont have to worry about it blowing out of the bed because you install the tie downs over the bedrug at 4 points.

 

The standard black bed liners will fade unless you get Line-X with the Xtra coating applied to it. Line-X Xtra keeps it looking like new for a long time. But it also increases the price.

I'm not sure but I think that the color match is actually Line-X Xtra in color isntead of just plain black.

If he didn't apply the additional protection coating to it it was probably faded and slightly worn from use. It is much thicker than spray paint every will be and will prevent dings in the bed.



I personally have just plain black Line-X without anything extra on it and it is slightly faded after almost a year of use. I use my truck as a truck and work it hard. There is some slight damage to the liner after the beating I've given it. I took it back to my dealer to ask about some of the damage and the cost to repair and he said that if the cuts ever go all the way through to bring it back and they will fix it free of charge. That is customer service right there.

 

LINE-X color matches always include Xtra for no fading.

 

He was spraying the brand VORTEX. He claims its the best.

His truck liner looked like the hard wavy icing on thoes oatmeal raisin cookies.

Wow... That Vortex stuff looks like garbage. That's not even close to what Line-X looks like...

 

Vortex is a low pressure product. Interestingly, I have a friend who sprays Vortex through a high pressure machine. You would think that it would then look like other high pressure bedliners, but it doesn't. It does look better though.

 

where would I go to get the standard black spray-on? would it be the same wherever i got it from?

 

Find your local Line-X dealer. Prices vary a little by dealer. I paid 409 for mine several years ago. It has faded a little but not too bad and I use my truck as a truck.

 

I had a BedRug in a Lightning that with an open bed and 140mph it never had a problem. They are not going anywhere.

 

I too use my truck as an actual truck. The bed rug looks nice and all, but what happens when you haul gravel, dirt, mud, mulch, fire wood, etc. like I do quite often in it? Just curious here, I don't have any experience with one.

What I do have experience with is my Line-X. I've beat'n the heck out of it since 2002 and it still looks great. If I were to damage it, I know I can take it to any Line-X dealer to have it repaired as part of it's life time warranty, free of cost.

 

The hauling gravel, dirt, etc. has no negative effect on the BedRug from my past experience but the last truck I had with a BedRug was my 2002 F150. I had spray-ins in the past 2 trucks and now am going back to the BedRug in this truck(BedTred actually).

I can not speak on the longevity of the BedRug as I have not kept a truck that I had the BedRug installed more than 2 years. They have always looked great(other than yellow lab hair but the BedTred should take care of that) at the 2 year mark with no protection and plenty of use.
