Bed Bolts and Spray Liner

I just bought my F150 NW edition and am looking at having Line-X sprayed in. I have been looking at every truck I pass in the parking lots and I am seeing a trend I don’t like. It appears the bed bolts are removed during the application and replaced. On some of the older truck I see these nice lined beds with unsightly rusted bolts. Is there a reason why the spray in liner just can't be applied over the bolts? I don't ever intend to remove my bed and if it was ever an absolute necessity couldn’t they just be cut off and replaced?

I would appreciate any input some of you may have on this subject.

Thank you!

Some people prefer the bolts unsprayed -- I guess in the event the bed ever has to be pulled. I don't know how likely that occurence is, but I had mine sprayed. If I ever really need the bed pulled, they can easily cut around the bolts with a utility knife and peel off the bedliner. The bedliner could then be patched later.

Personally, I don't think it makes a big difference either way, but as with many things, I'm sure there are strong advocates of both ways of doing it...

When I had my 03 KR bed sprayed with a Line-X, the dealer gave me the option of removing the bolts or leaving them. I liked the idea of leaving the bolts free because I've had people rear-end me 2 different times. I think it's a personal choice, but either way you wont go wrong!

sprayed...if you need to cut them loose to gain access to your tail gate handle I would assume the warrenty would be void. Or it may cost you to patch it.

I plan on replacing my stock tail gate handle with a custom chrome so I want easy access to that...so mine is not sprayed.

The rust factor...get a spare set of bolts...? or I suppose if you feel you will never need to access your tail gate handle (not even for the possible repair) ask them to be sprayed over.

everything has an up and down.

I had mine Line-X'd. I had him spray my tie downs, bolts and anything else in the bed!

they removed everything except my bed bolts... tie downs and all the bolts out of the tailgate for access to the handle/lock. sprayed over the bed bolts then put everything back in. no problems with it, and ive had it for over a year already...

I'm pretty sure BlueOvalOwner is talking about the six big floor bolts that hold the bed to the frame. Mine are sprayed.

I can't imagine any spray-on business would spray over the tailgate access panel without removing it and the bolts first.

Has that ever happened to anybody?

For the average owner.....
Need to remove bed = highly unlikely.
Need to remove tailgate access panel = very likely.

I'm a LINE-X dealer.

It doesn't matter to us whether the bolts are sprayed or not. Actually, it's easier just to spray over everything. But, most customers want them removed. So, it's your call and it doesn't matter, either way.

I just got mine done today! They removed all the bolts and sprayed under them. I kind of like the look, although I don't have to worry too much about rust over here in SoCal.

I'm sure they will do whatever you want them to. Either way, you are going to be happy! I sure am!!!

I do spray in liners for the dealer i work for and when I do a ford or dodge I remove the bolts.I think it gives a clener look and allows the bed to be removed. On older trucks like my 77 F150 I sprayed over them due to the hassle of getting them out on the new fords those bolts shouldnt rust If you want them sprayed over just tell the place you do and they will leave in.

Notice how nicely it follows the contours of the bed. That's because it drys in about 4 seconds, unlike many of our competitors.

I had my bed bolts sprayed - it looked fine. Then I was hit hard in the drivers side, and the bed had to be removed for repair. The body shop guy did a great job, he used a hole saw slightly larger than the bolt head and exposed the bolt heads. After the repair, I called the liner shop, and was informed that it could not be patched, but would have to be removed and replaced. I left it as is, and have had no issues. The body guy explained that a rear end hit could drive the bed into the cab, requiring the removal of the bed to repair the cab. Removing the bed is not that uncommon. If I had to do it over, I would not have the bolts sprayed. Heck, if I could do it over, I would get a bedrug.

When I had my Line-X installed, I forgot to tell them to remove the bolts, but they did anyway. I prefer them unsprayed, if I ever want to remove my bed it will be easier. and for rust, one of mine has begun to rust which I'm not worried about, because its only surface rust and even if it rust through Their not hard to replace, they would rust either way if the bed were or was not sprayed. my tie downs were also not sprayed.
and I like the way it looks with unsprayed bolts

I had mine sprayed. I like the looks better. I also never understood the "but you can't remove your bed" argument either. I guess to each their own but I've never regretted having mine sprayed.

The tailgate access screws and the cargo tie downs were removed but the 6 in the bed were sprayed
