nerf bars or step tubes

Ok whatever you call them nerf bars or step tubes...I usually call them nerf bars. a quick search didn't yield any definitive results

I was wondering if the nerf bars from different generation could fit one from another?? ( mine are kinda showing their age)

for example, I have a 02 extended cab 4x4 with factory nerf bars. Can a set of nerf bars from the next generation 04'-08' or 09'-12' fit on my 02'?? Keeping things the same extended cab to extended cab from one generation to the other.

It is probably more about the hangers, or mounting brackets....IF I keep my old brackets or hangers will they mount to the newer style nerf bars with little or no modification ??

It's very possible.. Just take some measurements first..

Before getting my Amp Research Powersteps, I had 2010 5" Eliptical style boards on my 04 Supercab.. They bolted right up..

thanks
but...going from 04'-10' or vise-versa, the cab styles do not appear to change very much. There is a larger difference from 10th gen to 11th generation. Surprised that this has't been tried or discussed previously

yes no doubt those AMP units would be sweet.....but oH Snap on the $$$

Yeah I understand what your saying... I dont know what your brackets look like or how they mount but maybe like you said.. Newer ones may bolt ontop of your brackets, I dunno, you'd have to take some measurements... But I bought my truck new with different style running boards (4" i think) and when I changed them to the 2010 boards the brackets were exactly the same. Hope you get it figure out.. Good luck

Regardless of what is fact or not, I still believe the 2009 style is still a re-wamped '04/'08 body, they share so many pats between wheels, door handles, front end clip is swap over, and the body is relatively a match. Thus the parts being very easily swapped over directly.

If they aren't a direct swap to a '97/'03, welding older brackets to newer bars is always an option.

Wouldn't hurt to find some on Craigslist, take yours off, then take a few minutes to see if the CL ones fit

Yeah I'll prolly find some trucks on dealer lots with the style I'm looking for....take a few measurements and work from there.

Dumb thought but... Good aftermarket nerf bars made for your truck can't be that expensive. Why bother with pull offs?

True, some are not all that pricey....it is the old adage..."ya get what ya pay for".

I do not want to get a set and only have them look worse then what I have on there now in a year or so. SO, you can say I'm selective.

The main point of the thread was to investigate if others had tripped up this trail before and see what they have done. thanks for your input though
