Another PTM handle and mirror thread...

I'm wanting to ptm my handles and mirrors, but I'm unsure of how to go about it. I have the ugly dull black plastic handles and i want to paint them glossy black to match the truck. Same goes for the side mirrors. Should i just buy handle covers and paint them, or try to take mine off and do it myself? How hard is it to take off the handles and mirrors?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Stick on handle covers are bulky and cheap, you can tell it is a cover by seeing the original under neith.

I removed all of my OEM chrome pkg handles and I had a Supercab set of handles I put on my Supercrew when I had mine painted. Left the rear doors un-installed since it was only for a couple days. I bought a set of FX4 mirrors to run while I had my original mirrors fully painted also. I am now trying to sell them for what I bought them for ( $100.00 ).

I fully sanded all the black texture on everything I had painted, looks as if it was painted stock. Technically it is, OEM product painted by the Ford dealership. It is a hassle, installing handles, and sanding the mirrors to 100% smooth, but the effort, time, and money invested was well worth it in the end. It is quite a chore removing the drivers side handle if you have the 5 button keypad. Figuring out the hooks for the locks is difficult also.

Having a 2nd vehicle at hand makes projects like these so much easier though!

Handles sanded smooth.

I think i want to ptm my bumpers too. I don't think those will be too hard, since my dads friend owns a sandblasting shop.

Might work out. I bought primed bumpers and had them painted also as I didn't want any risk of flaking/chipping overtime. Costed big money but made it look so much nicer. Especially when I was in the awkward in-between stage of modifications

I went the other route and painted the cheapo covers, mirror caps, and FX2 grille. You really gotta take your time to prep and clear properly. It does look a bit bulkier as Darren mentioned, but was a lot easier and a ton less expensive (i only have a supercab too). Holding up pretty good after 2 years.

If you want to do it right, without being with a truck I suggest just buying an extra set. Paint the extra set, switch them out, then sell the set you took off your truck. Not trying to solicit but that is what I did and I am selling the set I took off of my truck. The set I am selling also includes the keypad which you can add to your truck. Your unique code is behind your back seat and your door is pre- wired from what I have been told. They are in the classified section for 2004-08. Hope this helps.
