Satin Black Paint new Best Friend?

I plan on using satin Krylon Satin Black Spray paint alot this summer.

I want to paint:

Door Handles
Wiper Cowl
Heads and tails (for harley)
Maybe the tailgate emblem
and all the other trim that is fading

Will this stay looking good and keep a good texture or do i need a primer as well?

All the black you see on my truck is mar-hyde satin black, the flames and bigger pieces were done with a spray gun, smaller pieces sprayed from a shake can. It last but you should not wax it or if it gets wet you want to dry it or it tends to leave water marks. I did not prime nothing but the wheels and bumbers, i even re-painted the whole undercarage and havent seen any issues in the paint.

.
Recently went to a auto paint supply shop looking for adhesion promoter to paint emblems and trim. Their recommendation was to just use SEM Trim Black ««« -click-

Part # 39143

Reasons ...
  • only minor surface prep' necessary. *Though I did scuff the surfaces with a ScotchBrite pad and follow-up with isopropyl alcohol.
  • VERY QUICK flash time ( few minutes ). *Hardens in 48hours.
  • advertises that it ... "Offers maximum adhesion on stainless steel and chrome".
We shall see.

SEM is one of those companies I've heard great things about, but keep forgetting. Good find.

Yeah I had my truck professionally detailed prior to selling it and they used SEM paint on the undercarriage, hitch, tow hooks, etc. to freshen things up.

Think repainting the Saleen Grille or would that look bad?

I have used Krylon Fusion on my grill, front bumper valance, rear window surround, tail lights, and have plans for plenty more.
All I did was clean everything well with simple green, and wipe it down with alcohol to remove any residue. No scuffing or primer.
I painted everything last summer, and it still looks as good as the day I did it.

Stick with the satin black. I tried the gloss and it made everything look painted.

SEM trim black user for life here, it paints very well and matches the factory paint. For plastics, I used SEM plastic or vinyl prep forget the name but it works as the adhesion promoter.

For what it's worth, I recently tried "Back to Black" conditioner made by Mothers. Waste of time! I did the wiper cowl, looked great for about a week. 1 month later looks faded again. I've read that "Forever Black" conditioner works well.

I used satin black Krylon Fusion on my grill, wiper cowl, bed rails and tailgate cap about 3 years ago. They are finally starting to show wear again so I am planning to hit up the wiper cowl and grill again. I had some left over RustOleum Truck Bed Coating from painting my tool box so I hit the bed rails and tailgate cap with it. I'll see how long it lasts.

When I did the Krylon I just cleaned everything real good with Simple Green then went to town with a crap load of light coats.

use SEM. they also sell a plastic prep(thats the name of it) its a surface primer/degreaser spray that works great. not a paint primer like you'd use on metal, more of an adhesion promoter. I have always had perfect results w/ SEM, krylon and duplicolor are very hit or miss w/ anything more involved than spraying semiflat black on a rear end housing.
