Quoted $800.00 for some PTM work

Hey Guys,
I took my 05 supercrew in to a local shop to get an estimate to PTM both chrome bumpers and to PTM the rockers, removing the arizona beige. He took a look and said about $800.00, this was the first place I went to but may check out other places for more quotes. I was wondering if this was about an average price, or should I shop around. He is having another shop prep and powder coat the two bumpers and he will be spraying the rockers.

Thanks

That sounds pretty good to me considering that they are gonna powder coat the bumper and such. I think I was quotes 1200 to do mine, so I still have the 2 tone and chrome bumpers.

get it in writing, and pay the man. Sounds to me like a low-ball estimate to get you in the door, and suppliment additional charges after it's taken apart. Any written warranties, or a "taillight warranty"? If it sounds too good to be true.... you know the rest.

Get it in writing for sure, but the price seems good.

You had a company quote you 250 for both bumpers to dip them, remove the chrome, and powder coat them. Both bumpers? Wow. I find this really hard to believe. If so, you should have jumped at it. Like both feet jump.

I have a question. Why would you buy a truck if you're not happy with the color? Seems a little farfetched to buy something and change it. Unless you're looking for a change.

Not trying to dog anywhere here, just wondering about what some of you guys are thinking when you spend that much on paint, when your trucks look just fine.

For me, I want to change it up a bit, to me it is cheaper than trading it in for a newer model. I usually, as soon as I paid off an auto loan, within a few months would trade said paid off auto and stay broke another 4-5 years with the latest model of whatever I was looking at. I decided that I would run this thing into the dirt before buying another vehicle, and use the money on the house and kids and such.

I take it in this Monday, I have removed the front and rear bumpers, running boards and those plastic stone guards. I have another question as to how I should do my running boards, they are going to go back on but was wondering if I should leave them chrome or paint them black or my truck color? Only chrome left are my wheels and those are staying.

That rear bumper pad was a pain, got so impatient I just ripped it off after breaking off two of those little fingers, ordered the replacement from Tasca.

Yeah, I hear you on the pad. Imagine me having to swap two of them when I swapped my chrome w/integrated tow hitch for a black painted bumper w/o the integrated tow hitch. That was not fun but luckily I didn't break any tabs. :o

I hear that man. I can't really judge what other people do huh? I've put more money in my truck than I can think of. It's a money pit.

I think the bumpers would look pretty sick. Can't wait to see them.

I couldn't afford a newer model when I was looking to get my F150 in 2008, I accepted this 04 XLT, wanted an 06 or so FX4 or Lariat. Slowly changing it to what I want it to be, which is..
