Rustoleum Spray on Bed Liner/ Rockers and Bumpers Done!
#242
Just used this stuff on my chrome running boards. I really like how they turned out. Scraped up the chrome with my orbital sander and some 90 grit. Used one coat of self etching primer, one coat of black primer, and then two coats of the bed liner.
Here's the pics:

Installed, trucks dirty, won't stop raining here....
So far so good, I am hoping it holds up well, but touchup will be really easy.

Did you do any prep work to the bed rails/tailgate cap? I've been thinking of doing the exact same thing (have a black/tan KR) and my bed rails are tan and I hate it...

My word of advice is to get one of the plastic nozzles that attaches to the top of the spray cans. At Home Depot they had them hanging on one of the rails next to the spray paints. The Truck Bed Coating seems to like to puddle up in the gutter on top of the can and drip out (at least the 8 cans I went through did). The plastic nozzle will also help keep a more consistent spray pattern. This stuff is very forgiving and if you start getting runs or if the can drips on your work you can wad up a piece of newspaper and "dab" them. The texture will blend right in once it dries. I also noticed the texture seems to be more gritty if you use a bunch of very light layers.
Warning- If you spray your bed rails and tailgate cap, use caution when putting stuff in the bed over the rails. I had to load up a bunch of boxes and kept dragging my arms across the bed rails wearing a t-shirt. I ended up with a bunch of "road rash" on my arms.

it holds up really well. i used the same stuff the cover the entire exterior of my cherokee and once it cures, its pretty strong. Ive rubbed trees and it doesnt chip or peal off. I also didnt have to do any prep work and it stuck. just taped off and painted. Of course I put like 20 coats on my jeep but to go off the op's info i did do my bed of my old chevy with about 4 coats and it heald up pretty well. Nothing like my jeep but not too bad either. Just do not use the rubberized undercoating of rustolium. Use the duplicolor if you want rubberized undercoating. Used rustolium first on the interior of my jeep and it peeled the first time it got wet. duplicolor though has held up through alot.

You can paint over it, but if you use the bed, it will wear off quickly(the paint and the liner). I would look into getting it rhino lined with white liner, I think they can do that and it would cost a little more, but not much.
Materials to sand, prime, line, and then paint would cost a decent amount and if you use the bed, will not last long. A white Rhino Liner or Line-X will last much longer and will remain white.

Did my bumpers with this stuff today and happy the way they turned out. Much better than the rattle can black paint on before. The way this stuff cures I think it should hold up. May tackle the bed. It's in bad shape now, so even if it doesn't fully hold up, it will look better than now.
