H.I.D Questions

Just got off the phone with DDM tuning and it's gonna cost about $200 to switch out my hi/lo beams and Hella 500 Aux lights to HIDs and have them wire everything up.

I just wanted to verify for my 2001 F150 5.4L 4x4 my hi/lo beams are the 9007 bulb.

I wanted to get my fog lights switched out to hids as well, but DDM didn't carry the bulbs. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the bulb size for the fogs are 9145?

For both my headlights and Hella 500's I'm getting a 55w ballast with 10000k. I'm getting these cause I go to the desert a lot and need the light.

How's that sound everyone?

If you need the light..DON'T put those 10000K bulbs in there !! all you will get is a blue so-so light. If you need the light, stay at 4300K to 6000K tops !!

So with a 55w ballast what would be the brightest light possible? I was leaning towards 8000k at first, but the guy on the phone said 10k.

Ok so how is this:

In my hi/low beams I'm getting 55w 6000k

for my Hella 500 Aux lights I'm getting 55w 5000k

good choice if I need the light?

IMO I think the 5000K is the best. It just makes everything stand out more. With that being said a 4300K has the most lumens, as the K's get higher the lumens get lower. Since you want to go with 55w. I THINK it makes the K's higher, like 4300K=5000K, 5000K=6000K and so on.

Thanks, I actually did some research and found that 4300k is the brightest.

So I got 4500k for my Hella 500

and sticking to about 6000k for my hi/lo beams.

Well just did some more research and found that the fog lights 9145 are actually a H10 bulb as well.

So I'm getting a 35w 4500k HID kit for my fogs.

Research, eh?

So. despite the dooofus from DDM mis-advising you on colour temp, yer still gonna buy from them?

See my sig for more reasons not to, and the proper way to do this.

If ya go DDM for some insane reason, be sure to get plenty of spares

I appreciate you looking out and advising me on their issues. I am still going to buy with them. I've had a few friends buy from them from their HB store and they have had no issues what so ever.

FWIW, it's actually reverse of what was previously stated. Here is a chart that might be useful.

stick to 35w for the foglights and 55w for the headlights. I would go no higher than 8k for the heads.

DDM does carry the fog light bulbs. They are known as H10 instead of 9145.

With the setup you currently have listed in your signature, your headlights will actually be whiter than your fog lights. Ask me how I know.....

IMHO, the best absolute setup when not going the projector retrofit route is as follows:

Headlights: 9007 Bi-xenon 35W 5000K DDM Slim Ballasts kit
Fog lights: H10 (9145) 35W 4500K DDM Slim Ballasts kit

There is not reason to get a 55W kit in a reflector based housing, as all you are doing with the additional power is produce more glare, which may cause problems to oncoming drivers. 55W are meant mainly for projector style housings only.

And please, once you install them, aim your headlights down as to not blind the on coming drivers.
