3156 for the reverse bulb. Sylvania's site still says 921 but that is not even close to being right.

reviving a dead thread but i did some research and testing. found out that a H13/9008 with a little trimming around the base of the bulb will fit the taillights reverse bulbs socket. just got my hands on a set of ballasts and ordering the bulbs hopefully tonight or tomorrow and fab this little project up.... i know i know kind of over kill but i need it because of my extremely blacked out taillights. Hopefully get a write up also. stay tuned.

Honestly, if I were to do it, I'd just keep the LED reverse in mine and put HIDs in some cheap fogs, and hook those up on a separate switch. HID reverse are just not practical, since you have to wait for them to warm up. Plus, every time to go from Park to Drive, it'll turn them on for a very short time, killing them rather quickly.

exactly!

just put some cheap fog lights under your bumper. a lot more practical and efficient then hacking up your housings.

This really is a pointless mod. If you need more light, mount some small fog housings under the bumper, run some larger AWG wires on your harness, and put some high powered halogens in there.

Its just me being me wanting to be that person that has to be a little bit over the edge. the kit will be completely plug and play just like headlights. dont like the look of the AUX lights under the bumper. and will have these on a switch also to the fuse box to be remotely turned on and off if need be also.... not really worrying about that momentary switch thru R and D. bulbs are cheap enough now taht i could care less and also most companies carry a lifetime warranty anyways so no worries. doing this because my tails are very dark. need the extra light without having extra addons hanging from the bumper and/or hitch.

At least your honest about wanting to be that person that has to go over the edge.
Oh and btw, its I COULDNT care less. I you could care less, you would be caring less.

Ugh, I guess if you wanna be different...

You could do like some of the videos I saw did where they did both an HID and a higher wattage bulb, all in the housing. They had the HID on a switch, with the halogen being the main light. If/when they "needed" the HID, they switched it on. They had it wired so only one was on at any given time, so as to reduce the heat build up. I suppose that would be the next acceptable option...

I'd buy at least 2 sets of bulbs/HID kits to have as replacements. Throw the other one in there while the broken one is being warrantied.

The heat buildup will melt your housings. 3156s dont go over about 150*, putting HID in there I bet would see 250-300* tops.
