Help with swaping badges

I did a little research on here but most info was for painting badges. I want to swap my badges for the 2009/2010 version. I want the fender badge with no model name attatched to it but on fordemblems.com all the fender badges have the model on it. Are you guys just putting the tailgate badges on your fenders? Or cutting off the model name?
this is what I want:

not this:

What am I missing?

I thought about cutting it when I did mine but I think it would have left a curve on the end that would have to be filled before painting. I think I remember reading that someone has cut and had to fill them with bondo or something to make them right. I just measured my badges and it looks like the tailgate badge won't work based on the measurements, too small for the fenders .5in smaller in height and 1in smaller in length. I don't remember the spacing of the fender badge mounting tab holes but it doesn't appear that they will be covered if you use the tailgate badge.

I guess they do

But this is only the left one.

I should just take a scraper and walk through the walmart parking lot till I find a new 09-10 Fx4

OP: this thread also tells you that the tailgate badge won't work on the fenders

Fordemblems.com says this in regards to alignment pins:

"Emblems of a specific year can be placed on any model year truck. If the alignment pins on the fender and the tailgate emblems don't match the notches on the truck, one or even both of the pins can be removed. The alignment pins are just used for alignment, while the adhesive is used to place the emblem on the truck. "

Soooo, based on that I guess I can use the tailgate badge on the fenders. I don't know why I missed that earlier. :o

Edit: Hmmmm. Re-read darkshadow's post and now I'm not so sure about the pin holes. Might just have to go with the badge with the XLT on it...

^^^^ The picture shows the difference in size between the tailgate emblem and the fender ones so the tailgate one is not big enough to cover the holes in the fenders. It has nothing to do with the pins, they can be cut of with no problem, you just don't want the holes in your fender that won't be covered because of a different sized emblem. I bought the tailgate emblem for my truck and had to cut the pins and sand 1/4in off the back of the emblem to make it sit right on my tailgate. That was before I found out that you have to order the flareside tailgate emblem because it is already flat since the two tailgates are different. The styleside F150 has the groove in the tailgate where the emblem sits in and the flareside's tailgate does not.

I remember looking into this a while back, there's another thread I just can't find it. Basically it said for the tailgate badge, order one for an 09'-10' flare side and it should fit just fine in our trucks. Don't quote me on it, I'm still looking for the reference.

Found it: https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...s-07-09-a.html

Thanks for posting that up.

I bought 09 FX4 emblems , took a dremel tool and cut off the trim tab. They came out pretty good besides me messing up the the inlays lol.

Also for the tailgate emblem you have to order the flare-side emblem, assuming you have a style-side.

the tail-gate emblem is too small for the fenders, look at my pic the tail-gate emblem is about half the size, so it wont cover the alignment holes, like DarkShadowStx mentioned.

^^^^ The ol dremel had crossed my mind. How did the surface look after the cut? If I didn't want to paint them, would they look alright? Thank you!
