Projector headlights
Projector headlights
Ok, so I bought a set of Halo Projector Headlights for my 2001 XLT. I want to put them on soon, but I'm seeing a lot of people talking about "sealing" them. Can anybody help me with this? Also, the projector lamp takes an H3 size bulb. I want to upgrade to 8000k H.I.D. but the H.I.D. bulbs are 3x longer than standard H3 size bulbs, and I'm not sure if they'll fit in the housing. Has anybody done this? If so can you please help me?

Also, I'm concerned about the amount of glare that will be produced by also installing H.I.D.'s in the reflector (high beam.) And can anybody tell me what size the turn signal bulb is in these lights? I want to switch from orange to blue.
First off, what the talk about "sealing" them is most of the time these eBay headlights will fog up with moisture because of a bad seal, so most people run some caulking around the edge to insure that it dosen't do that. Moisture can kill lights.
Secondly, I do not know of anyone personally running HIDs in a projector set-up. I am quite piqued in seeing the results, as halogens in a projector beam are quite pittyful. I would take a shot and see if they do. If not, you could always get a nice set of L headlights.
Are the high-beams the projectors? The projector light itself is designed to have a cut-off point. If it is the reflector, thats nothing new as everyone with aftermarket HIDs has a little glare. Its not unbearable, you can always aim them down a touch if you keep getting flashed.
Lastly, your turn signal is a 3157. VatoZone or any automotive hardware store should sell the Sylvania "blue-ish" 3157 turn signal.

Wow, thanks man, I appreciate it. I'm going to seal them off, and just go for it with H.I.D.'s. And what I meant by the high beams was: There are 2 lenses for the main headlights, one is a projector (while the light is in low beam) and sitting right next to that is a reflector lens (which comes on when high beams are engaged) However, they only come on one at a time. If the low beams are on, the projectors come on, but not the reflector, and if the high beams are on, the projector is off and the reflector is on. So I think I'm going to go with 10,000K on the projectors (I LOVE the deep blue look) and 6,000K on the high beam (a whiter, brighter light.) What do ya think?
I think he means headlights from the Lightning series truck. They should fit in your truck fine.
The HIG's will be better in the projector than they would in a reflector setup. The front lens, though, has a different focal point than a HID projector, so don't expect HID results.
Why do you want 8000K? Why not 5000K? I would also suggest not putting HIG's in the high beams. Just leave them as halogens. HID's require a warm up period, so after flicking on your high beams, you'd have to wait up to a minute and a half for full intensity. Also, flicking HID's on and off is detrimental to bulb lifespan.
Go check out HIDPlanet for a metric tonne of information on HID's. You could also search my username and HID or HIG on this forum for a whole lot of information I've written on the topic.

Well the headlights from the Lightning wouldn't be an option, as I just dropped $200 on a set of 1-Piece lights. What do you mean when you say: "The front lens, though, has a different focal point than a HID projector, so don't expect HID results." Are you talking about the reflector setup for the hi beams? And thanks for the info, I'm heading off to work now but will definitely check out HIDPlanet. Cheers.

I've posted numerous posts on the topic of HID's here. I get the gross majority of my information from HIDPlanet's forums. Instead of reposting all the information, I'll just link to some of my earlier posts. I highly suggest reading the forums above as there is far more information there, relating to HID's.
