The next "4 to 8 business days" may be rather long for me!

So here's the '11 console sitting in place. The last picture is a very rough chop of my eventual idea. I'm about to go to work, but if I come up with a better chop or sketch I'll post that too.

Thoughts?

Suggestions?

looks good, i personally prefer the feel of the 04-08 shifter over the 09+

plus the shifter wouldnt be compatible since it has the "M" gear selection instead of the traditional "2 and 1"

Pat,

I was wondering what that was about! That "M" has been confusing me...

Well If I do the console shift conversion I may have to use the 04-08 shifter then. I just liked the look of the 09+ (console) better, plus (As you of all people know) sometimes it's just cool to have something that you know no other truck will have.

But questions for everybody:

I'm in debate on wither to do the console shift conversion or not. My original thought was to keep the column shift and delete the console shifter. Down the road I'd like to install a Mac Mini (http://www.macvroom.com/) with a 7.5" screen where the HU is now. Where the shifter is would be replaced with a trackpad (Mouse from a laptop) and have it flush-mount in the console. With the addition of a volume ****.

I got the idea from an installation in a VW GTi. I'll link a few pictures so you guys can see what I'm talking about:

I still want to do the Mac Install, but what I'm asking opinions on is do to the console shift conversion? Or remove it and use that area for the trackpad and volume **** for the Mac?

Thanks!

A thought just occurred to me, that if I could convert my dash into one that was meant for a flow through console, it would be much easier to fabricate where it meets the console.

Look at the highlighted areas for an example:

So I know that I can buy the center Radio/HVAC controls surround for the flowthrough separately, but what about the parts that go below the vents? I'm guessing no, I'd have to replace the whole dash because of this:

2008 HD Dash: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2008-FORD-F-...sories&vxp=mtr

Photo if you don't want to click the link:

At this point (If a new dash is required) I may buy something and keep it separate until the whole mold is complete. This might actually be a blessing in design, because I could keep driving the truck while I'm working on the project

Thoughts? Is this making sense or do I just sound like a crazy person that is over-thinking this?

Thanks everybody!

the whole dash needs to be swapped, the dark grey vertical panels to the left and right of the button stack is part of the main dash piece.

I think if you're gonna go custom with the HU, you should do an Ipad (I hate apple products) and you could do it as a touch screen instead of taking up console real estate with the track pad. Then you can still do the console shifter

My only concerns with the iPad are:
  1. Wiring it into the sound system, I can at least run the Mac Mini through an AMP
  2. Integration with a removable Hard-drive (Song and Video Storage)
  3. Be able to run a USB Internet Connection (Uses Cell-Phone Signal). This will allow GPS, Pandora, etc..

But I'm just being devil's advocate here. If there's a way past this I really would like the console shift. Maybe a touch screen? I don't know, back to Google searching!

Thanks guys! I appreciate it! It's gonna be slow, $20 at a time. But you guys already know that's how I have to do stuff anyways...

Thankfully I already have an expensive aspect of it (I suppose I should have mentioned this yesterday when Pat brought up the iPad idea):

Please excuse the mess and the crappy phone quality, but you can see that I'm using it right now.

Hey, quick update. I realized earlier that I never posted a video of my exhaust. The quality of the video is pretty crappy, but hey just listen.

Sounds pretty good for a V6 V8 swap in the future

Haha maybe...

I like what I've been reading about the new 5.0, but unless I did that for some reason maybe I'll boost it. Lot of projects before either one of those though... Might be a good idea to finish what I've started
