Have used 9145ST in 07 and 09 no problem. They will not harm the fog light housing. 9005 on the other hand...

if you use your fog lights everytime you use your headlights & sometimes just fogs and parking lights, they will mess up the housing - it's not a question or a theory - it's a fact.

the 5w isn't going to actually melt the plastic housing...that's not what i meant - but that difference will make cracks and discolor the factory ****ty fog housings.

I've been through three sets of bulbs in my fog lights and I've got high-beam 65W 9005s in them. I have them tied to the ignition. If the engine is running, they are on. Day or night, rain or shine. They are perfectly fine. With a stock bulb, the housings are designed to last the life of the vehicle. I highly disagree with that post.

The bulb can't crack the housing, it can't get hot enough- that road debris. Discoloration is also known as oxidation- again, not related to the bulb.

I think you will also find that the older vehicles lenses were glass or farther away from the bulb. The new models (06 up with the round fogs) will melt the lenses when using a 9005 or any 55w bulb. More than than one member here has had it happen to them. Far more than one.

it's not surface cracks from road debri..i should have used a better term. its like a swirl that is pretty clearly from heating, then cooling of the plastic.

the lights were not even 6 months old (new truck) so it wasnt oxidation

im just warning other people that this WILL happen. it's happened twice already to me

It's pretty well known anyone with 06+ should stick with 45W or less

So I guess the safe answer is to stick with the stock bulbs? Nobody has found a low enough watt replacement?

Purchased the 9145st bulbs yesterday. The package states 45w, and I'm not trying to start an argument. Just stating Sylvania's advertised watts!
