It's supposed to alter your vehicle's aerodynamics so that wind blows over the top of your cabin instead of into your windshield. When bugs fly towards your vehicle, they get picked up and carried away by the air current. That makes sense. Rocks and road debris are heaver than bugs though. Because rocks and road debris are heavier than bugs, they cannot be deflected by airflow alone. The idea is that the rock will hit the bug sheild and get deflected. I'll take my chances without one. I'm not worried about bugs, just rocks. I doubt they are gonna hit a 2" piece of plastic everytime.

I saw a red 150 yesterday with the same short bug shield I had and it looked sharp. On mine, not so much. Here's with...

and without...

If i didn't have the stripes I might have kept it - still I think it's a much cleaner look without it.

I've got no beef agaisn't bug shields, I like mine. It blends in pretty well with the black anyways so it doesn't stand out terribly.

Actually little rocks and debris can be deflected by the diverted air, at freeway speeds especially. It won't stop everthing, but I believe it deflects alot more than it's physical 2 inches in depth. I think they look good with or without. I like mine. Although I'm not a big fan of them on 2WD trucks.

My factory one is on. I like it since I drive interstate up to 500 miles a week. When I wash my truck there is so much crap embedded into the bug shield that wont come off. That thing really takes a beating. Id'e rather have it on there then chips and guts on the front of my hood.

A41Billy, your truck wouldn't look right without it

I've always had one on my truck until recently and I really like how it looks without it.

I like my bug shield and can see why some people don't like them as they sometimes do not look the best. I have a black truck too so it does not stick out as bad as some of the other colors do.

I got a ding within 2 weeks of getting my truck so I went and got a bug shield and I have gotten 3 dings after that I dont think it helps with rocks but it seems to help with bugs at 45 and above

Bug shields are ugly, especially on F150s. The only truck I honestly think looks good with a bug shield is the 2005 - 2007 model Chevy 2500HD trucks. My Sport red '05 had one and I was quite impressed with how it looked. Any other vehicle looks horrible.

Dont ride peoples @sses and you wont get any stones/pebbles thrown at your paint.

That's because 2500's are fugly. Bug shields just help mask that ultra ugliness.

x2 - I didn't even notice this thread up until now. I took mine off finally this last TH and I must say that it really looks a lot better. It makes the front end look a lot cleaner. Who knows how long it'll last but I didn't realize just how nice the OBS and NBS look without them
