Is it worth switching grilles?
Is it worth switching grilles?
would it be worth my time and money to take off my bolt over and replace it with a "real" grille? i mean mine doesnt look bad, just i know the stock ones back there so it bugs me sometimes and when im close up you can really see it. so im debating if its worth it to buy a grille and cutout my stock plastic honeycomb. any opinions welcome. thanks
i would if had the bolt-over.
but its up to you, im sure you can sell yours to atleast pay for half the new grill.
i wouldnt put it as my "top priority" mod , but if you had some extra cash you were lookin to spend ....... ,
i think the replacements look much better/cleaner imho

my opinion, leave it stock. i don't know why but i think a turck lifted looks way cleaner with everything stock then changing grille or anything like that. upgrade head lights. or start from the interior. or rims... if your into that. but thats what i would do. plus i like the rugged look of a truck i am not one to "dub" anything out i dont like shinny things like my girlfriend does (not towards you)....lol try panting it... see if that works for you i seen some good black painted grilles out there. but when it comes down to it its your opinion your the one who knows what you want or what kind of theme your going for.
good luck.
good luck.
If I were you man, I would save up some side cash and buy the Lightning grill, Harley, or basic billet type of grill, or paint the honeycomb gloss black. If you go to the painted OEM grill look, it would look real good on your paint, and you could save money for a couple other things you should do ( smoke tail lamps, and Lightning headlamps & corners )
yeah thanks everyone. i read a how-to on taking out the stock grille and it seems to be a PITA! haha. i mean this one doesnt look horrible, but i think if i had painted it gloss black first before the bolt-over it would look better because the facotyr grille is all faded and whatnot.
wow i dont think anyone really read your question lol!
IMO its all a personal preferance. Just because one is a "replacement" and one is "bolt over" Doesnt make one better than the other even if their prices are different. They are all just polished bars after all!
I personally have a bolt over, for the simple fact that i wanted the billet bars flush against the face of the outer surround and i couldnt find a replacement that sat flush at the time. I do hate the factory honeycomb back there but would i do it all over again for a replacement peice? Heck no!
Here is a suggestion. If you like your current grille, and dont want to spend more on another that is probably not even going to be noticeable, then dont!
Heres what i plan to do to make my bolt over more replacement like.
cut out your honeycomb but leave just the four "combs" that hold the bolt over in place.
Youll look thru it and there will be no visible honeycomb just like the replacement type.
I was going to do this a long time ago but work and other projects always seem to keep me busy.

I had a bolt over and couldn't stand it as the black OEM grille made a ring all the way around. Once I change it out for a replacement grille I was much happier with the look. As said above it is all personal preference.
