Headlight/HID question
Headlight/HID question
Hey guys i have a 2001 F150 and i have some new headlights and taillights coming this week for it. I will have no problem installing the taillights but i have no idea how to install the headlights. Does anyone have a link to some help for me. They are halo headlights so i know there will be a bunch of extra wiring for them so any help is appreciated. Also i was thinking about getting a HID kit for my truck but i'm not very sure about what brand to get. Also i have heard that switching to an HID could ruin your aftermarket headlights. Is this true? Thanks for all your help!
I think you probably got the same ones i have....theyre prety simple. There should only be one ground wire that all the wires run into. Then the halo should be hooked up or you shoul hook it up to ur headlight so it turns on when you turn on ur lights.....same with the LEDs....I got the $80 HIDs off ebay...been running them for 2 years with no problems at all

Pull the two things that look like an L on the back side of the stock headlight assembly and unscrew the stock corner. Then you just gotta line everything back up.....i am just warning you. It is a BITCH!!!!!! to install the one piece headlights.....thats what i am assuming you got?
I've taken my grille/bumper/heads off too many times to count. If you get stuck simply take a pic and post it up and I can help.
As for HIDs, they are the best visual mod you will ever do for your truck. BUY THEM. They are worth it. They will not ruin your lights. As for temperatures, they actually run a tad cooler than halogens. Bud if you do not like removing/installing over and over. Hold off on the install until you get HIDs. If you buy them off eBay, they wont take longer than 3 days to arrive. They usually run about $80 for low beams. Double that for high-beams

Well these likes have kind of been an issue so i think i'm going to order my HID kit today. One of the LED's happen to be out so i'm going to send those back and that way i won't have to install things multiple times and have all the merchandise at once. One of the really big issues i'm having and the only thing keeping me from ordering the kit is that i'm really worried about it melting my Housing for my aftermarket lights. I got them from a place on ebay and the seller was X3Racing and i was wondering if anyone else has had some experiences with this seller and how their headlights stand up against HID? The picture is the headlight that i have purchased. Also if anyone knows how to replace the LED on these headlights let me know they sent me the light with a defective LED. I'm pretty sure i know how just want to make sure i'm thinking right.

Wendler, HIDs (actual Farenheight temperature were talking here) run a lot cooler than Halogens. So if your headlights didnt melt with standard bulbs in them, they definately wont even begin to warm up with HIDs.
I remember when I had Silverstars in my headlights I could burn my hand on my headlights. On a cool night with my HIDs on, the lens of the heads are just a tad warmer than ambient temperature.

Ha ha sorry i just don't want to ruin my headlights! ha ha thanks for all your help guys. What bulb size do i need, i have heard it is a 9007 for my headlights is this true?

I went with 6000K. They are white with a hint of blue. The higher the Kelvin, the less lumens (actual brightness coming out of your heads) you'll get. So the brightest will be around 4500K or 5000K and the darkest around 10000K (extreme bluish-purple). You can even get kits in the 3000K range (yellow) which pierce the fog quite well!
Things to watch out for:
Some sites will list the type of HID bulb. Here's a simple decoding:
9007-1 (Single beam kit. El Cheapo)
9007-2 (Dual-beam, one HID Xenon tube for low beam mated next to a standard Halogen tube for high-beam)
9007-3 (Bixenon, One HID tube that controls both high and low beam. It moves back and forth to strike the reflectors at a diff angle to provide selectable high and low beam. This is the most common and best buy, IMO)
9007-4 (Bixenon, One HID tube for low beam with one HID tube for high-beam mated next to it. Requires TWO ballasts PER SIDE for a total of 4 ballasts on your truck. Takes up a lot of space and is $$$)

Yes, your truck has the 9007 bulb. This is a special bulb as it has high and low beam in a single tube, with two filaments. If you upgrade to HID, most kits are a single beam kit which means you'll lose your high-beams. If you wish to keep your high-beams, make sure they say bi-xenon. They cost a bit more, but if you live out in the country like me, its needed.
