Current hid status

Yes, another HID thread...I'm tired of not being able to see. Can you HID owners post:
1: the brand of the HID's that you are running
2: the specs on them (wattage, temp, ect.)
3: if you've been pulled over or received a ticket for them
4: if you've had any problems or failures, how long you've had them
5: price and where you bought them

I want a not so pricey but reliable kit. I know that it's dangerous and illegal but I want the temperature closest to OEM HID lights such as BMW, Land Rover, Porshe to try and get an OEM look.

1.) I'm running the eBay $75 specials- Xentec ballasts from seller HID4U
2.) 35W bi-xenon 6000K (white with blue) telescoping 9007 bulbs
3.) not a single problem. I've been through a police checkpoint several times without a hitch
4.) about 1/2 a year. only problem is when i upgraded to bi-xenon and it took three weeks for my wire harness arrive!
5.) $75 for ballasts and then later $70 for bixenon bulbs and wiring

side note: get a bi-xenon kit. it sucks to lose your high-beams. plus its fun when ppl flash you in low beam and then you click on your high's

1. Retrosolutions
2. 35W 9006 (for my lows) 4300k
3. No problems once I properly aimed them. Before, I got flashed a couple times, but no problems with police.
4. Had them since mid-Aug. I've had some problems where one headlight doesn't turn on, but it seems it stopped doing that. Apparently, Expy electrical systems are a bit picky.
5. $140.00

Right now, I'm in a local group buy for some 50 dollar kits for my fogs and highs that some of the Audi people have had good luck with. I'll post when I get those.

Stock lows w/ fogs on:

HID lows w/ stock fogs on (before I aimed them):

I've looked at them from the outside, and there really is almost no glare once you aim them properly. You being lifted, you might need to aim slightly lower so you don't really blind people.

The ones I have are what I would consider a pure white. Granted, someone told me mine look like they are more 5000k than 4300k, but 4300k is what I bought. Either way, they look like what you would see from a car with stock HIDs, so I guess they really are 4300k.

You can't go wrong with either 4300k or 5000k.

you definately want 5000k...dont go over that though.

get a 35w kit..the xentec is not bad either

you dont need "bi-xenon" kit, the low beams will be bright enough

make sure you aim them down!

well i was going to aim my lows wayyy down so my hi's would be were lows normally are. I hear HID conversions already blind on coming traffic, plus i have a lifted truck, so i was going to ride with hi's on and when i saw a car approaching on a dark road i would turn them back to low beams...i wouldn't want one of my own family members or friends getting blinded and put in a dangerous situation

so ill probably go with the HID4U seller, bixenon xentec kit, 35 watts, 5000k, and the xentec 9005 5000k for the fogs.
do you know if the bixenon h13 kit comes with the fused wiring relay? I've heard it does but the 9005 kit doesnt.

Here is a helpful video that i stumbled over for anyone who doesn't know how to install an HID conversion kit.

josh, HIDs are undoubtedly brighter than stock, but the whole point of high-beams is to see farther down the road. If you dont' have them aimed farther down the road, and you drive over 45 mph, you'll be "driving" over your beam, and an accident is soon to happen. Bi-xenon is the way to go as it is added insurance, plus it will quickly put to doubt anyone who thinks your low-beams are too bright

black, if you are indeed getting bi-xenon, be sure to confirm with the seller as I am 95% sure HID4U does not sell the bi-xenon kits.

do the bi-xenon's only work in the newer style headlights? I put a set of the bi-xenon in my girlfriends Dakota, and the highs don't work and I just figured it was because it was the old style headlight with the reflectors on the actual lens, and thought that getting the crystals with the reflectors behind the bulb would fix it?

the 9005 bulb is a high beam bulb and i read a write up somewhere that if you put 9005 in our fog lights it pretty much turns the fog lights into high beams, get a h10 kit you should be able to find them almost everywhere that is the other part number for the stock bulb (9145=h10 samething)

I have 6000k HID4U kits in both headlights and foglights (H13 bixenon in heads, 9145 in fogs). I am also lifted like you. I have had them for 1.5 years with no issues.

1) make sure you buy an extra wiring harness separately for your foglights...you need one. The bixenon kit comes with one.

2) DO NOT run the fog lights around town. You will get pulled over. The fog housings have nothing directly in front of the bulb, they are stupid bright with HIDs. I only use the fogs when i am out in the country or offroad. You will be able to see plenty well with just the headlights on. (josiah is lifted and said hes gotten multiple tickets for HID fogs).

3) Aim them way down or else it will be ridiculously bright and people will flash you all night long. I haven't been flashed in months since i re-aimed mine.

4) i recommend doing the procedure to eliminate the headlights from turning on when you push the remote unlock button on your key. The constant ignition of the ballasts when you unlock at night is extra wear/tear on them. Search in the 04-08 section for a thread about how to do this.
