Lights behind grill

I've got an 01 f150 and about once a week i have to make a 100 mile-ish drive on an unlit road and my stock halogen lights don't cut it. I looked at HID's but i'm in college and I dont have the kind of cash to drop $200 on a set of headlights. I remembered back a few years ago when my friend had some 6" offroad lights behind his grille, it looked awesoeme. I'm looking for something REALLY bright, I will run them on an independent switch and only use them when there are no cars around so, I'm not worried about wether they are legal or not. Anyone got any ides/pictures of their setup? What will i need to have a setup brighter than a 55w hid kit? Is there anything out there for less than $100?

OR
should i just go with a retro solutions HID kit?

yeah. i read up on some info on a few light systems but, what im looking for is a more specific comparison between HID and an off road 100-150 watt halogen bulb. how do you like your 150 watt bulbd, are they like super bright or, just like another set of fogs.

basically take off the honeycomb grill and the top cover. i put them in upside down and mounted them to a piece of the moulding that runs along the backside of the grill... works perfect

I got HIDs in my truck for $75 shipped. They're great but I miss hi-beams. I have 100W Sylvania bulbs in the dinky Hella 2020's behind my grille and I mainly use them for DRL's since they are non-existant compared to my HIDs

what do you guys think about these? kind of a knock off KC but, theyre about 140$ cheaper and can't be that bad. they also have one with a blue lense, would that make any difference in lighting?

as long as you don't have a billit grill. I had mine mounted behind my billit and the output sucked. I moved them to my bull bar. I have 55w hid heads and fogs and am about to install hids in my daylighters as well. Let there be light!
