Hey now.....

I bet if you went with 50%, then did a limo black (or 5% or whatever you want to call it) sun strip across the top, that portion would look SO much darker, it would make the rest of the window appear "almost" factory, to anyone who didn't know better :-)

Besides.... cops usually walk up from behind your vehicle, then look through your side window, I wonder how many would even look through your front windshield ?

Hmmm,
Fish

Unless the crack is an obvious view obstruction they won't say a thing but the minute you tint your windshield, NSP will be all over you. The first time they just issue a tint law ticket and make you remove the tint, second time they impound your truck and haul you off to the pokey for failure to comply !

Reading this thread really makes me want to tint my windshield...ugh.

The only problem is I am already riding dirty by Michigan standards with my 5% all the way around...and I think if I got the windshield done I would see a small bubble and flip, since I am OCD when it comes to all the other windows I don't look out of in order to drive...hmmm

This cop would stop you in a New York minute. It tee's me off to see tinted windshields. There is no need for it and it's illegal for a reason. Cracked windshield may get you stopped as well. Depends where it is in the glass and how bad it is. Don't waste your money - you're just gonna have to take it off.

Hey Texas guys.....anyone have what the exact law is on each window location and %?

My windows are stock at the moment, but several buddies of mine have limo tinted all around except the windshield. I don't plan on going to full limo tint - 5% may be too much for me - but 10% all around and maybe 35/50% on the windshield?

Also, to prevent too much law enforcement attention, would it be better to tint the windshield 35% and all the window 18% to match each other - appearing to be not as dark? Or is it irrelevant and better to go dark on all but none on the windshield? These two choices are in the event that doing both is going to be too much for legal comfort.

And as far as the windshield tint being illegal for a reason...have you ever driven in Texas in the middle of summer, especially in the afternoon/evenings? If you don't have dark polarized sunglasses (which still don't help) it's impossible to drive due to glare and blinding light. It would totally help prevent this, and many members have posted pics at night showing that vision really isn't hampered at all. When the laws were made years ago, it was at times when technology was only so advanced (i.e. speed limits - tires, brakes, etc are 10x better now than the 1950's when highways developed) and so now it's time to review and edit as necessary. I understand why things are as they are, but times change and so need the laws.

.....and don't say that it's also for safety for police on traffic stops. If needed, the states can make motorists roll down all the windows. In fact, the Highway Patrolmen up here routinely make everyone step out of the vehicle on regular traffic stops. It's mainly due to drug trafficking - which they then handcuff them - but if/when I get pulled over or a buddy of mine does, we roll everything down and avoid any issues. My .02 for the day...
