Lightning or HD grill - 2001

I'm in the market for a new grill, either the SVT lightning grill (2002) or the HD grill. I'm undecided on chrome or black (leaning towards black). Does anyone out there have either of these grills on their rigs (97 to 2003 versions)? I'm also going to buy a set of SVT headlights. Any opinions?

I have the H.D. grille and L headlights w/corners. Best bet would be to join the National Harley Truck Owners Site and a Lighting board or two. I got my grille from a vendor on NHTOC site for about $100.00, keep in mind, it has one broken tab on the back side no one sees. He could not sell it as new. Got it painted to match the truck. Bought the heads and corners from a guy on a Lightning board. I'll look for some pics....

go with the Lightning, it would look really clean with the L heads too!

Thanks for your input everyone, I have ordered the Lightning headlights and I'm trying to get the black lightning grill. Terajerame, your truck looks great, so does your HD. Luke_Duke, I would be interested in seeing yours. I'll post some pics when I get the goodies installed!!

Thanks. I still need to replace my hood, waiting to get a steel split cowl hood, then go with a Lightning bumper cover on the lower... and then...

Sheesh, never ends, does it?

Post up when its done!

You got that right, it never ends. The list seems to get longer and longer. I want to put tint on my side windows, a Line-X liner (to replace the factory plastic) and a full inside/outside detail. Those are looking more like next year though, gotta keep the kids fed and clothed/diapered.

tarajerame,

Thanks for the compliment. I kinda go back and forth between a Lightning lower bumper cover and a H.D. lower.. I know just going back with the factory lower would be cheapest, but i like to make my own little mods like most of us do. If i do the Lightning cover, then i don't have to replace the chrome bumper with the nice dent in the middle. If i do the H.D. valance, i would get a new bumper and p.t.m...

Decisions Decisions....

Luke_Duke, my heads arrived and I have a quick question, how did you line up your heads? I was thinking of taping off the beam on my garage with my stockers and then lining up the new ones like that. Or, is there an easier way of doing this? Also, I didn;t get an amber bulb with them, I expect they just take a standard amber bulb?

charron34,
Thats how i did mine.. just outlined the highest marked on the garage door with the originals, then put the new ones in and lined them up the same way. Mine actually were very close to my stockers when i installed them. And jup, standard amber bulb. You can get the stealth bulbs if you prefer, they look clear or silver but light up amber. I just went with amber bulbs...
