Theft weakness?
Theft weakness?
Is the only reason the 04-08 are so easy to get into and steal stuff the drivers side door lock? Or is there another weakness? Other than the obvious breaking of a window. Just punch in the lock and your golden? I am thinking of something along the lines of fixing this issue if it is.
I did not know where to put this, I apologize if it is in the wrong place.

Yes and I have thought about doing that but I really want to be able to use my key incase the battery dies or I lock my keys in it. I think I have a way around this issue but I don't want to work on it just to find out that something else is just as easy.
The way I understand it, someone can just stick a screwdriver between the blastic bucket part of the door handle and the sheet metal of the door itself. The screwdriver can then easily force the door lock open. This is true of ALL 4 doors, not just the driver's door. You can do the same thing with the tailgate, making it very easy to unlock and steal.
There were a few threads on thiis about 7-8 months ago. People were complaining that stuff had been stolen from their locked trucks and there was no evidence of break-in.
A solution is a plate you mount on the inside of the door (you have to take the trim off to do it). The plate is made by Jimmi Jammer and here's a webpage for their plates that fit Fords: http://www.trucksecurity.com/TScom%2...ase%20Ford.htm To protect everything, you need a set for the front doors, the rear doors if you have them and the tailgate. The plates protect the locks from a probing screwdriver.
I put these things in my truck one afternoon after I installed a GPS. I decided having a Gryphon programmer AND a GPS in it was just too much temptation. They're a little bit tricky to install, but nothing you can't figure out.

The sad fact is that if someone "wants" to break in, they will. I thought of the jimmi jammer as well, but I've heard that they are not fool proof either. I just make sure to remove my GPS and toss a towel over my dash to cover up my radio to hopefully detract thieves (even though it probably will not deter them) What to do, what to do??
Maybe I should get a vicious dog and have him live in my truck!

I thought we had factory anti-theft? The screwdriver method doesn't trigger an alarm? Wow............
I guess that little red LED blinking on the dash doesn't count for much!

I've always wondered how much laminating your windows would cost...
Not that an alarm will stop everybody, but I definitely would not rely on the factory alarm. Go with a 2 way system. At least that way you can be notified if someone is messing with your truck.
This is the exact system that I purchased. I love it!
