HID's for fog lights

Hey guys and gals, I just bought some JDM black headlights and a set of HID's to put in them. Can't wait till they get here. My question is I also want to put some HID's in the fog lights but I am confused on the type of bulb to use. I know there are guys here that have done this but I cant find an answer using the search feature.

I have a 2006 FX4 with the round fogs and the stock bulb in the housing is a 9140. I have looked and there are no HID's for that bulb. What bulb type are you guys running?

Thanks!

What about the 9145's would those fit? I imagine they would be closer to what I have? I don't know though!

If I went with the 9005's would they fit, i.e. no trimming of the bulb to get it to fit.

Thanks

9005 or H10.they both have thesame socket type so theres no need for filing, etching, cutting to make them fit.
i got the H10 bulb for my fogs and it slaps and locks in its place.

I have a 05 and I had to trim the tab on the bulb(9005) to slide in my fog's but it's not hard just be sure no to cut to much or they won't seal properly.

Don't use the 9005 bulb in the round fog lights (06-07). Had them in mine (07 FX4) and they melted the lens on one side. The 9005's are a 65W bulb, the 9145's are a 40W. The 9005 is too hot for the small housing.

the thread starter's just asking what type/socket to use in the fog lights.not the regular 9005 bulbs but the HID's with a 9005 socket.
good info tho bout the regular 9005 and fog lens.

So what is the final verdict here? Do you have to trim 9005 bulbs to fin in a 9140 socket? Will the 9005 bulbs melt the fog light housing?

I want to get HIDs for my fog lights so I'm guessing by some of the previous posts that it is OK to put HID 9005 bulbs in the fog light housings but not OK to put regular halogen 9005 bulbs in because they burn hotter.

Can anyone confirm that HID 9005 bulbs fit and won't melt the housing?

And what is the difference between H10 and 9005? I see both listed on the website I want to get my HIDs from.

HIDS run much cooler with less power consumption then stock halogen bulbs...
Just contact your shop you ar wanting to purchase the hids from and ask them what the direct replacement hid bulb size is for whatever application you need - much easier then taking someones word and being wrong.

I guess I'll find out myself. I just purchased a 9005 Hid kit.

The lights look the same so I'm sure they'll fit. We'll see if they melt my housings.
