New Lights..Quick ?'s
What would be a good set of low cost lights that i can put instead of the stock POS ones. I don't want to get a whole new "light" or w/e its called new. I just want the new headlamps or w/e to get Hi/Lo beams..and such. Probably looking for around $30 lights..
Thx in advance for replies

I'm assuming you mean bulbs. You can probably find a set of silverstars for about 40$ at any parts store. They'll definitely be an improvement over stock.
Or, save about 150$ and buy an HID kit. I'm very impressed with mine. Simple to install and much better than stock - I'll never live without HID's again.

wow i feel stupid. Yeah bulbs...you know when you know exactly what your thinking about and can't think of the word...thats how i felt.
What exactly is a HID vs. normal lights...
Thx

HID (high intensity discharge) uses xenon gas and around 25,000-50,000 volts
to ignite the gas. its a much brighter and whiter light. it runs at about:
3000 lumens (4300 kelvin or stock whitish yellowish light)
2500 lumes (6000 kelvin, whitish blue)
there are other colors of course going up to 12000 kelvin which is a purplish light. but its not as bright, around 1000 lumens
the halogen lights use (dont kill me if im wrong) a sodium gas mix thats around 3900 kelvin and about 1000 lumens.
over all its a better light. 4300k and 6000k are your best bet. they dont reflect as much as the other colors do.
if any of this is wrong please chime in.

Not that its gonna stop anybody
But aren't HID systems illegal-just something that should be noted so its not a surprise to someone unsuspecting of it-I dont think cops drive around handing out tickets for it unless they get you for something else though

yea they are illegal. but unless the cop pops the hood of your car (which he cant without a damn good reason or you consent) hese never going to find out. the only way you could get a ticket is if they are just going over the entire car looking for illegal stuff.
Well, that pretty much sums it up.
HID is definitely better in my opinion. I don't know how I've lived without these for the last 11 months.

Ive read different things about the lights and bulbs burning up or the wiring being off. If i was to add the Silverstars it would just be a easy plug in and nothing to worry about? Correct?
Correct. They are simply bulbs. Take the old out, put the new in. I'd reccommend the Silverstar Ultras. A nice, crisp white light. Much better than stock imho. I didn't believe all the hype until I tried it. Oh yes... 100% legal too
Anyways, if I remember right, you lift the hood, pull up a black bar (?) like object by the headlights, unscrew 1 or 2 screws and take out teh headlight housing. Twist off headlight connector and take out bulb. Put new one in and repeat in reverse order.
Sounds more intense than it is. Go get a pair - mine were actually on sale at the time so ask if there is a promo going on otherwise they are something like $40 - $50. Cheers

those silver stars are your best bet up next to HIDs. they have a great color light and you wont hafto worry at all about burning up your wiring harness. it sounds like they are your best bet.
and the install is very simple. it really is just a few screws. just remember not to touch the glass on the bulbs. or the oil from your fingers will destroy the intensity of the bulbs and cause it to burst prematurely.
good luck and let us know what you decide!

yes you need 2. one for each side.
HID is illegal?
Many new cars come with them stock. Almost got a newer Maxima that had HID as a factory option. Or is it the HID after market kits that are not legal. I would think if they were legal as an option on a new car then they would be legal as an upgrade to an existing vehicle. However, nothing suprises me anymore LOL.

yea the aftermarket kits are illegal. if its a factory option they are legal. although "the man" is already stomping on that. dont quote me on this but iv heard Illinois and a few other states are making HIDs illegal no matter what. if its a factory option they must be changed back to halogen before they get to the dealer.
Yea, that figures. I am sure that will end up getting ugly before its all over. I am sure there are some locations where they will enforce that too. Around here I don't think the Cops care too much. Most of the imports have those annoying blue tinted headlights and they don't get pulled over. I tired those in my LHS once, lost about 50% of my light LOL.
