Well I'm not sure why Red97 had to do all that work, but I hope it all worked out well. Also the armrest thing is strange to me too.
Like I said in an earlier post, I just bolted it right in to the excisting hardware and my armrest fit it perfect. Maybe there is a year model difference.
I too have the gap at the floor, but I rather like it. I can vaccuum up against the console very easily.

Good Luck Y'all!

I installed mine last night and had to make a few mods. Had to cut the back plate to not interfere with the back bolts and it still would not slide all of the way to the front (about 1/4" short). I got the back screws (the ones that hold the console to the plates) in at an angle but the front ones did not line up close enough. I am going to drill two new small holes in the front plate then I should be done.

I did notice that it does not sit flush on the floor. Mine fit fine with the armrests. I think mine was from a '98 and just slid into place.

Does anyone know if there is a tray for the console under the lid to put in like the one that came in the F150? Mine did not come with one.

The only thing I did not like was that there is a hole in the back where I think the vents were.

Oh well, I will have it finished up by this weekend and will post some pictures next week.

When I first read this post I went to the dealer and sat in a new Expy too get a good look at the console. I liked the look and noticed that the seats did not have the arm rests. A salesman told me the arm rests were deleted because of the height of the console in the new Expy.

The console sits level with my arm rests but does not interfere with them. Maybe the new center console is wider?!?

I asked LWM when I ordered it and mine came from a '98 Expy.

My center console is from a '99 Expy. That's why my arm rests don't work. I'm telling you, if you take those back studs out and go to the hardware store with the nut(to get the correct size)it will go in like a dream. no cutting the thick steel plates. It was easier than cutting. After you put the bolts in there is plenty of clearance. The front bolts are o.k. Just the back ones. If you do it this way make sure you take the nut from the back stud because the back studs are bigger.

Topher,

It's not that bad loosing the arm rests. The center console becomes the arm rests.

Question

Greetings!

Well, I ordered my center console a few days ago for $90.00 plus shipping. I did not realize that the armrests on the captains may have to be removed. I think that the center console I ordered came from a '99. How tall is the center console on these 99 Expy's? Seems a little weird that they would have to be removed. Wouldn't that leave holes where the armrests used to be and look crappy?
Oh well, just have to wait and see how it goes. How are the cup holders on the Expy center console, anyways? The 2000 center console on the F-150's have real nice ones with removable "inserts" for big-gulp size drinks. The dash mounted ones are useless (unless your using Dixie Cups). I've also heard that some of the center consoles have back seat power points... can anyone confirm this? That would be really cool and easy to wire.....

Talking

Yes, I have a power point on mine and I think they all came with that.
Blueflareside brought up the issue of the hole on the back...That is where the rear seat stereo controls were. I guess those stayed with the new console in the Expy.
No baskets like the F150 console, and the cup holders are very simalar.

Good Luck Y'all! Brandon

I finished putting the console in last night and will post pics as soon as I get them.

I got all of the holes to finally line up and it fits like a glove! The cup holders are fine and I like the little pockets on the sides of the console and the location of where your change goes. It is much easier to find the correct change at a toll booth without having to open the center console. Mine matched perfectly with the colors of the truck after I gave it a good Armor All treatment.

The Expy console is taller because it is not as deep as the old console from the F-150. The old one sat on the ground without any mounting plates, etc. The Expy console still has a lot of storage, though.

TSSCS, I also got the '99 console. It does have the insert in the console that comes out for bigger cups. It is also taller and wider. My armrests could have stayed on but if you have your seat forward enough it made it hard to open the lid. You do end up with holes if you take them off. I'm just going to replace that panel(I am an upholsterer). I have seen pictures of a '99 Navigator and it has the arm rests. So I think they may have changed the console during the '99 model year.

I want o put one in too, but I have a blue interior and the console only comes in tan or gray.
I talked to my friend at a auto body shop, he said it couls be painted. Then I would have to put some blue fabric on the cover.
Or maybee I could do like cable guy did to his dash, and cover the whole thing with fabric.

GroggyModem,
I am wondering what to do with the opening at the back also.

Don C,
I did not know that the new F-150's came with a blue interior. Do the Expeditions come with this also? Even if they do it would be probably be pretty tough to find one without buying it from Ford. The tweed fabric idea that CableGuy had may work out for you but there are a lot of nooks and crannies on the console.....let us know what you end up doing.

Cool

I would be interested in any ideas that fill the hole in the back. Mine has pretty much been out of sight out of mind. Lets hear some ideas on this.
