Unhappy UGLY!!!..please help!!!

Ok..I have a 98 f-150 with a 3inch body lift on my truck along with a 6 inch suspension and b/c of a$$hole cops I am forced to lower my front bumper 3 inches. Ofcourse that leaves that ugly gap to fill in...I hate it its driving me crazy. Any creative suggestions would be greatly appreciated on what I could put in the big hole to make the truck look better...thanks guys and gals

You would thank that cop if you got into an accident then someone sued your a$$ off for killing someone because your bumper was too high and hit them in the face. The law is there for a reason, not just to tick you off.

BTW, a$$hole cops don't make the law, they enforce it, and it was your parents who voted on the law, so yell at them! Signed: a concerned citizen

Scottie how did u bend it to the shape of the truck?...BTW I had a 23ft walk around fishing boat hooked to the truck when he pulled me. The reason he pulled me according to him was*..a car behind you couldnt judge their distance right and was following a little too close b/c you had a dim brake light on the trailier.* In the first place that car shouldnt have been following to close to a truck pulling a boat period. Second why didnt the cop pull him and give him a ticket?...N e way my truck measured out legal in the rear and 32 1/2 inches in the front. With out anything hooked to my truck I measure 30 1/2 in the rear and 29 1/2 in the front on flat ground. He tried to get me for improper registration b/c he couldnt read. And i had to correct him..any way back to the original post..I want some sugestions on the gap..not critisism on my opinion of that cop and who votes for what laws.
thanks

because the bumper hit em in the face? I would be pissed if he hit me at ALL!!! Since when is there a law about where you can hit a person?

"Oh yeah.... lets make it so that people can run down another person any way they want, as long as their front bumper doesnt smack em in the face, its all gravy"

pfffft.... i woulda told that cop to shut up and write me a ticket... and knowing i was in the right on everything else, he could sit there, and search my truck for an hour if his heart desired, not find anything... hand me my ticket and send me home.... where i would pay the 20 bucks for the fix-it violation, show proof that i took off the 3" body lift, and go back home and put it right back on! that may sound immature, but i refuse to let police bother me with puny laws... there are SO many laws to **** on a person for, like in california it is illegal to even change your license plate frame unless it came like that from the dealer.... did you know that? there is like a 6" thick book on automotive codes for california... and it states that basically ANY modification that isnt stock... rims, tires, lights, steering wheels, even a bumper replacement is illegal if it wasnt a stock for stock switch.... but here is the thing, police are given the power to write tickets and enforce the law when its due.... not to run around town badgering people for petty things like the ride height... i can see if you were 15" lifted and couldnt see if 2 cars were parked in front of you lol but 3"? how tall was the cop? must have been one gimpy little fellow to be worried about getting smacked with a bumper that was only 9" higher than factory height....

my rant is in this, i dont think hitting a person while driving is right no matter what part of the car hits any part of the body.... if you are in the wrong and you decided to hit a pedestrian, yeah... its your fault, and your screwed regardless.... making a stupid judgement to say that being hit in the face is any worse than being hit lower and busting all the vertebrae in your back is just plain ignorant....... i could see it happening... some ignoramus in a tan uniform wearing some elvis sized chrome sunglasses chewin some copenhagen lookin over your truck and givin you a rundown over some stupid crap he knows damn well means nothing....

rant mode: off

What I was talking about in my first reply was that if someone is involved in an accident with an illegal vehicle i.e. one that is too high....people may use that in a lawsuit especially the way people are so sue happy these days. In a normal case, like an at fault accident you may get a ticket or something like that...but if the person that was struck gets wind that your vehicle was "illegal" they may say that had something to do with an injury that was sustained due to the illegal height of the truck. For example, maybe an illegal lifted truck t-boned a car and normally the bumper would have hit shoulder height in the driver's door but now it hit 3 inches higher and struck near the neck of the driver.....it just gives them more ammo to use in a lawsuit. Now all of a sudden they have "neck problems." I personally would rather be safe than sorry. Just my $.02.

Saying things like "because of a$$hole cops" is offensive for cops like myself, maybe you had a bad experience with one cop, it certainly doesn't make the rest of us "a$$holes." But if you hate all cops in general for what we do for a living then I don't care, I didn't become a cop because I needed more friends.

Ummm...THE GAP!!!...like i stated before i didnt post this to be harrassed by ppl on the internet telling me what my laws are and what would happen if I hit a person...I know that if I hit sumone in general I would be at fault if i was in a lowered or stock heigth truck. I know the laws in my state and respect them everytime im in a vehicle. When I typed *because of a$$hole cops* that was a typo, it should have said *cop* instead of being plural. I didnt mean to offend anyone...but dont I have a right to voice my opinion about one person? I have several family members that are state detectives and county police...so I didnt mean that every cop in the world were a$$holes. So can I please get sum helpfull suggestions on what to do with my gap inbetween the front bumper and grill?

Chance

The cop was very short..couldnt see in my window..

Ok, to get back to your original question.....I've seen a product called "gap guards" that are designed just for the space created by body lifts. The also come with bumper relocator brackets...I'll try to find the site for you.

This site sells them :

http://www.performanceaccessories.com/

just click the "application guide" on the right side of the screen and it shows you the part number for the gap guards. Hope this helps.

those gap guards are for the frame to body, i think what he is referring to is the gap between the top of the front bumper, and the bottom of the grille.... i dont know much about body lifts, but if i remember correctly they give you relocation brackets to move your bumper up 3" for the body lift, so it sits right... so my assumption in this is that he is going to put the bumper back at stock height, parallel with the frame, which is going to leave a 3" gap between his body and the front bumper.... correct me if im wrong, but does that sum it up?

What i would do, is buy a bumper add on... like the foglight fixtures that can be attached to the bottom of your bumper... then put the bumper back to the 3" lifted height, and the bottom of the bumper should still be 3" lower due to the new bumper add on since they dont usually measure the highest spot, but the lowest instead... that should work fine

edited to add: see?

I'm sure you can get it to bend. The piece I had was for the back bumper, so it matched well, it was a straight piece, but it was pretty thin. The sheetmetal comes in all types of thicknesses(is that a word?). I would do it, it probably only costs $30ish, try to bend it, if it don't look right, chuck it.

Good luck

I was thinking about adding a bumper add on but they have to measure from a solid peice of steel. I have the factory valance on the bottom. With that on and measuring from the lowest point on that im sitting at 28 1/2 inches which is legal. The diamond plate is sound pretty good but before I decide I wanna have alot of different ideas goin. Thought about adding 4 inches or more to the bottom the bumper and tig/mig welding a peice of 1/8 inch steel to it grinding it smooth and rechroming the bumper and have holes in it for PIAA lights. When I go to court in feb. the bumper must be at 29 or lower and apear stock.

Thanks,

Chance
