Has anyone tried these headlight bulbs in their truck? I looked at a set and I have to admit, I was tempted to try them.

The only thing that stopped me was that I had tried something very similar in my previous vehicle and I absolutely hated them. The bulbs I tried were HDI blue view bulbs.

I paid $26 per bulb for a 9007 series. I was really excited put them to work. When I put them in, I did notice they shined farther than the stock halogens, but I found myself squinting out the windshield to see? It seemed like the light was more intense, but because it shined father away, the light was less dense overall causing an enormous amount of shadow. This shadowing effect is what causes you to squint because things were being lit up, but not well. Yes, you could see street signs better, but overall they were not a good replacement for the stockers. They were even worse in rainfall. After a few weeks, I couldn’t stand it anymore and put back in the stockers. I threw the other ones in the glove box as spares…

I sure don’t want to spend $50 on silverstars to have the same result….especially when you can get the stockers for around $10 or less.
I vowed I’d never try another “Xenon” or fancy colored bulb again. Most of them are a bunch of crap. Most of the Xenon bulbs contain less than 3% Xenon gas…..yet manufacturers can pawn them off at a rediculous price leaving the consumer with a light that is basically a standard halogen bulb with a colored film over it!

Anyone have any comments??

 

I have Silverstars and I did notice a little difference. I dont squint quite so much at night. Would I spend 45 dollars for another pair? Probably not with the little amount of diference I noticed. They do make a whiter and a bit brighter light than the stock yellowish ones.

I suppose if i stuck a stock bulb back in one side and left a silverstar in the other and turned them on I would notice a bigger difference. But to tell the truth they didnt impress me as much as I though they would after here nothing but good about them.
I thought if i bought the silver stars I wouldnt have to go buy driving lights, but Im still looking for driving lights. It was a waste of money for me since I still have to get lights since it didnt make much difference.
Yes, those socalled Xenon and Xenarc lights that they sell at most places are a bunch of bull. My freind bought some at a car shop, and my dim lights are almost brigher than his brights. He spent around 30 dollars too.

 

Agreed on the Xenon part. Totally disagree with you on the Xenarc side of that.

You see, Xenarc is a trademarked name by Sylvania that refers specifically to a full 'high-intensity discharge' headlight replacement system that is available to folks who have late model F-series trucks. They're pricey (around $400-$500) but, they're worth their weight in gold! I have a set and wish I had bought them when they first hit the market many many years ago (and retailed for around $800 then!).

The XENARC system from Sylvania is truely awesome.

I have Xenon Farenheits in mine. I've tried the Silverstars, and I wasn't impressed. I bought them at Autozone for $40, and Autozone had them back within 30 minutes. I put one in with a Xenon (big difference) and then one in with a stock bulb, and couldn't tell much difference between the SS and the stock. A little brighter, but almost just as yellow. The Xenons I have are higher wattage, so they require a heavy duty harness, but they're much bright and much whiter. No comparison to a true HID (which I would love to have), but much cheaper than true HID...

 

I installed Silverstars and while they do put out a little more white light, I don't think they are worth the U$40. The light arc is a little fuller with no dark spots and they have less of the yellow tint.
The best bulbs I've found are Eurolite Fusions. About U$16 on ebay thay put out a pure white light with no blue shift. The bulbs last right about 1 year so you know when to buy spares.

Yes Ive heard they are sweet. Always wanted to try them, but 500 bucks is just way outta the question.

 

Finally someone admits that while bright, they still look yellow. I'm also a big fan of the Eurolites, I tried their "plasma" bulbs, which were supposed to look "HID'ish". They did, for about a week. They had a purple coating on the bulb, which burned off. Crystalized and flaked off. I took them back, and they exchanged them for fusions. I have had them last longer than a year, usually? I can get them for around $20 a pair or less, So I usually buy two pair at a time. So when one burns out, just pop in another.,,,,98

I've had the SilverStar bulbs in the headlights and the fogs since October! When they burn out I will get them again!

If you are looking for a world of difference, don't spend your money. But, if you are looking for a somewhat whiter, brighter, longer range bulb, the SilverStars will fill the bill.

Sort of like the PIAA wiper blades - better than stock . . . !
