Switched power lead for amp
Switched power lead for amp
I'm a novice at wiring amps and need some help. I've wired my amp but now I need to find out where to hook the wire that turns it on. I have an 09 Scab without SYNC, basic radio with CD player and it doesn't have a lead for a sub or power antenna to connect the amp turn on lead. Where can I tap into switched power?
Right now there is no sound coming out. I'm guessing that without the amp hooked to the switched power the sound won't get through it to the speakers?

I tested every single wire on both the 24 pin and the 16 pin, and not one was hot with the key. The hot wire was on all the time. I don't know where there is a keyed positive back behind the radio. I would like to find one if possible.
I couldn't find any at the radio. The radio leads were hot with the key off, probably to keep the memory. I finally found one in the fuse box that was hot only with the key on so thats were it is and it works fine.

Thats what I did. I went to the fuse box on the passenger side and found a yellow wire that was only on with the key. Sucks though since the radio doesn't play after you shut the truck off like it used to. Oh well more like the old days.
See post #2.... sounds good to me
Guys - How can there NOT be a switched power lead @ the radio? For dang sure that thang goes off with key off (after a delay).
(And yup - in addition to that, there is also a constant 12v input for the memory).
You two guys didn't forget that there is delayed accessory power did you?

I agree that there should be a switched wire somewhere, but I couldn't find one with the key on and my test light hitting every single wire on both plugs. You tell me how it is done, because I tried everything and ended up going to the fuse box.

There are the 3 types of radios for the '09 - 11 trucks. Basic (Single CD), Premium (6-CD) and the Sony 700W system. Only the Basic radio operates with a switched power lead to the HU or what we call the ACM (audio control module). The other two are operated by canbus. So my radio is a Premium and I picked up the solid blue wire in the passenger side kick-panel (it actually is run along the door sill and then into the middle of the cab for something but I didn't follow all the way. I'll have to ask Scully how is able to post the schematics in pdf format.
The safe way to do this, is to use an Add-a-fuse in the F41 position in the SJB ( aka Smart Junction Box, cab fuse panel ).
This is the fuse for the accessory delay relay.
The 15 A fuse is installed in the position for the normal operation of the factory wiring, the added fuse can be a max of 10A per the add-a-fuse limits.
The back of the head unit ( Actually the Audio Control Module, as posted above ) is not a good place to get additional power.
F41 is not FET operated, but all the same adding items to the factory wiring directly is not a good idea with any MY truck.
The Navigation & Premium ACM does not have the input from the accessory delay relay ( again as posted above ), so if you have anything but the base unit, you are SOL for finding power back there like the old days ( again which is not a good idea in general ).

Is that switched F41 fuse in the fuse block at the pass kick panel? I would like to find that one. I found a yellow wire down there that I tapped into for my remote wire. If I had one that would stay hot until the door opened would be even better.
By the way, I have a single cd radio with sync and serius XM, and I could not find one key on positive wire on either the 24 pin or 16 pin plugs. Just a hot all the time wire.
