New F-150 shortage

https://www.forbes.com/sites/doronle...ullsize-pickup

Depending on how quickly Ford Motor Co. is able to arrange backup production for parts lost to a fire at one of its suppliers’ factories, the financial damage to the automaker may be substantial.

So far, Ford has only had to close its Kansas City plant due to parts shortages and has said it will decide shortly whether it must close the Dearborn plant as well. The decision could hinge on whether the company is able to find an alternate source of the affected parts, which Ford hasn’t specified.

I wonder how this affects trucks (like mine) that were special orders? Mine currently shows 'in production'.

"just in time" manufacturing practices doesn't help either. I mean, they would likely only stock a day or two's worth of production anyway, but according to the numbers quoted in the article that's still a big chunk of change

Surprised they use magnesium in car parts... especially when you see how violent it burns.

I read that the company makes the radiator core support. Finding a suitable replacement will be tough. Several other automakers are facing shortages too since this was the largest magnisium supplier out there.

When you put all of your eggs in one basket it will happen. Ford and the rest of them should have had a backup supplier. You never know what can happen.

That’s crazy. Hopefully there’s good stock already on the lots. Will probably drive prices up....or at least the dealers will be less likely to make a deal.

Read this morning that it affects not just Ford, but a majority of other manufacturers.

There is a small Ford dealer in town. Their inventory is usually 75% F-150's and a few weeks ago they had around 25 of them on the lot. Went by yesterday and lucky if there were 10 there. Was wondering what was going on but now I know.

I saw a news report that said they were resuming operations for the F150 this Friday/Monday and for the Super-Duty line next Monday. My dealer told me it did not affect my order, but it's been 'in production' now since May 2nd.

Apparently during the showdown the tracking site was not being updated. I checked mine this afternoon it is says it came out of production on May 19th and is now in transit.
