I've got the 5.0 and work in the woods where I idle around gaining and losing elevation quite regularly. I am averaging on the dash 16.5 mpg with the 255-80/17 tires. A guy that I know in a similar woods role has a similar pickup but with the EB and he is showing 14.5 mpg on his dash readout. He is an older guy and likely has a smaller foot than I do.

Take it for what it's worth I suppose.

I just ordered a 2015 Platinum and chose the 5.0L over the 3.5L Ecoboost. The main reason, I don't know what the longevity of a forced induction motor will be with a 10.0:1 compression ratio. I noted that the 5.0L in the Mustang develops 435HP on premium fuel, and the compression ratio raised from 10.5:1 to 11:0:1. I wonder how much more power the 5.0L in the F-150 could get if the PCM timing tables were changed to run on premium fuel:

Check these photos from SEMA 2013, Ford has the technology to get 500+HP from a normally aspirated 5.0:

Sure they can but that's a $16,000 race engine that is using bigger cams than the truck engine. That engine makes its peak power even higher in the RPMs than the 5.0 already does. In something as heavy as a Supercrew F150 that results in being a slug off the line until those cams get into their own. To make 500 from the truck 5.0 you will have to add a supercharger or similar mods as that race engine. Neither is anywhere close to cheap.

For what it's worth, a friend of mine just traded in his 2012 EB with 230,000 or so on the completely factory engine.

We are looking at a 2015 5.0 So, how does a 5.0 tow and what have you towed?
I have 2018 F-150 5.0 with the roush cold air intake and I live in southwestern Pennsylvania. I tow 34-ft travel trailer up and down the Appalachian mountains. It weighs 8,500 lb loaded and I climb the mountains 45-50 mph. The truck likes third gear going up the mountain runs 3,500 to 4,000 RPMs. Transmission temp stays around 215° to 220° f. Going down the longer steeper grades I limit the truck to second gear. The motor holds you back just fine just tap in the brakes every once in awhile.

Stock 2018F-150

i routinely pull my 20’ tilt trailer that is around 4K pounds, with 2-4K of metal on it. No issues.

towed my buddies international scout with a power stroke once 500 miles with zero issues. I estimate the weight was around 12k.
