I'm convinced that only the suspension and tranny limit the F150 as compared to the F250. I think the aging frame platform of the Superduties is actually inferior to the F150, which is not only fully boxed, but wider than a Dodge 1 ton of the 90's in the stretch under the cab. (9" vs 7" frame rail width or height). I think the F150 has a stronger, stiffer frame than the Superduty. The F250 is going to have a heavier rear axle etc I understand. However, don't you think a semi weighs substantially less than a loaded 50' trailer?

Na, these forums are full of poseurs where everyone buys $60,000 Platinum 4x4's and their wives drive their kid to and from preschool with it... you know, on a 6 lane highway or to the grocery store

The biggest thing that gets towed is when the mother in law sits in the back seat

Jealousy is such an ugly thing. It must really suck having to drive around in a poverty spec truck. I think I'll just go ahead and turn my cooled seats on and cool off deez nuts!

Whatever dude... i'm laughing all the way to the bank while you are drowning in debt. I paid cash for my truck and the difference in cost between what I bought and a Lariat at the time paid for every drop of gas I have put in it for the first 5 or so years... so there's that

Thanks to all that have chimed in with usable information on the 5.0 . To crazyip , yes I and we all understand that probably 80 % of all trucks rarely ever tow anything. Walk through any grocery store ,Walmart or any large parking lot of your choice, and look at the hitches. No insert no ball not even a scratch on the inside to show signs of towing. In the area we live farm, ranch, mountains , snow, etc every trucks hitch looks worn out. Go south to Las vegas or north to salt lake area very few hitch's have ever been used. Trucks were bought for soccer moms or to go to the mtns once or twice a year with a tent a cooler and a fishing pole in the bed. So getting a response from all owners is not going to happen. As far as who pays for what and how, has no bearing. A person who pays cash for a 50,000.00 dollar truck or a 5,000.00 dollar truck. Or scrapes to make payments on either makes no difference. That's the unfortunate part of life. Yes I paid cash for our truck , why? Pay 2 to 10 % interest on a loan or get .025% on a savings. I borrowed from savings and pay myself back every month. Over the term of a 5 or 6 yr loan and the interest you pay, i'll probably save over 10 grand in interest for the term of a loan. Fortunatly after 40 yrs of working and saving I was able to do this, not all can or want to. In your thinking, what I save in interest will buy a lot of gas. Moral of the story is ( drum roll ) Lets Play Nice With Others

Well put Ottawsteve. The max tow + payload pack on a 2015 is an appetizing package. Wish I could get it in a 5.5 box though.

I have no problem towing 7700 Lbs. Lots of torque and power. I used to tow a similar trailer with a 5.4 liter. Both did well but sure like the 5.0 Liter.

It comes down to this: These are the good old days of powerful engines and capable trucks. At no time in the past have there been a lineup of trucks and engines that could compete with this generation. Those who nitpick do so on relative terms. We have those who use the moniker "5.slow" because the Ecoboost is 3 tenths of a second quicker 0-60 than the 5.0. The Coyote will obliterate the original Lightening or 454SS. My 5.0 Supercrew is more capable in just about EVERY way than Dad's old 77 Ford F-250 w/400 crew cab, or his 75 Chevy 454 3/4 ton crew cab.

I have a 2011 5.0 my dad just bought a 2014 eco boost. We took his truck to Texas hauling my boat so I could see the difference in towing from his truck to mine.

I can tell you if you are going to tow buy the Ecoboost. I didn't notice much difference in the trucks just driving around without the boat hooked up but when its towing there is no comparison. The ecoboost very seldom had to downshift even crossing bridges where my 5.0 has to downshift at times just maintaining 70mph. The eco fuel economy towing was much better as well. I sure wish I would have bought the eco for towing my rig but 2011 was the first year it was released and I was worried about buying such a new design in the first year.
5.0 is fine and doesn't do bad but not near as good for towing as the eco...

I'm not disputing your account, but it should be pointed out that in the 15 models, the gap has been narrowed in the power production between an Ecoboost and the 5.0. In fact the peak horsepower of the 5.0 exceeds the boost by 25. Also, do you know what gear ratios each truck has? Which one gets better economy empty?

The peak horsepower went up but it's north of 4000 RPM. The EB still makes more torque by 1800 RPM than the 5.0 ever makes. That is why the EB pulls better.

No hate for the 5.0, if I was building a project car it would be my first engine choice. It's a great engine but the EB is a better truck engine.

Allow me to clarify; if you looked at my post history it would confirm that I in no way dispute that the Boost will out pull the 5.0. However, we could honestly say that the 5.0 DOES pull competitively or better than most of what the competition has to offer, especially in something that gets over 20 mpg highway. We can also say that possibly only the 6.2 could beat it among any generation of engines with the Boost out of the equation. And I think we can safely say in answer to the original poster, it's certainly more than capable of doing what he needs it to do.

5.0 and Towing ?

The better economy all depends on how you drive. If you can stay out of the turbos, which usually means highway speeds if 60 to 65 mph, then you get good mpg out of the EB, but the ones I have been associated with, the mpg go south when you run 75 or so. The same will happen with the 5.0, just not quite as much. I average 20 to 21 on the highway running 75. I seldom tow and anything big when I do but I usually have 2 people and a few hundred pounds if gear in the truck. The overall mpg for 16,000 miles is over 19 mpg.

It would be quite a bit better if I could keep it 65 or under.
