Has anyone on here installed a gooseneck hitch on their truck? I bought a small farm about a year ago and am looking at getting into the cattle business. (Just a few cows) Most of the stock trailers are goosenecks including my neighbor's that I can borrow anytime. So I'm thinking about adding this to my truck. I know I'll be limited by the payload on my truck. I won't be really loading the trailer up though so I'll be ok there. Any kits better than the rest?

Yes, in a perfect world I would love to go buy a F250 Power stroke and have it factory installed. But, they are god awful expensive and my current truck is in great shape and paid for. So that will have to wait till I run the wheels off this truck.

 

Have you considered looking for an old beater farm truck for that - one that may even already have a gooseneck hitch installed?

 

Yes, you can get a 5th wheel hitch. I think it only works if you have a 8 ft bed if I recall correctly.

 

Gooseneck and 5th wheel are 2 different things. I wouldn't use either with a 5.5' bed and would be a bit concerned with a 6.5' bed.

 

I've been keeping an eye open but the prices are pretty high. A 3/4 ton diesel with 250,000+, bald tires and beat to hell will be pushing $10k. One in better shape will be closer to $13k and still have a ton of miles. Then I'd have to deal with the extra maintenance, taxes and insurance for it. I have a feeling that there will always be something needing fixed on something pushing 300,000 miles so it's not really worth fooling with.

As far as the beater truck, I ditto Wookie on that... just too expensive.

 

I have a B&W gooseneck set up on my 2011 F150 crew cab 5.5 I would be interested in getting rid of if you want to come to Kansas City for it!

 

If you're willing to ship it PM me price etc and maybe we can work something out. I'm not heading that way anytime in the future.

From looking at online pics, there are two big brackets that bolt to the frame rails and a center section that bolts to them. It doesn't look too bad to install except for drilling the holes in the bed. That isn't hard, just has to be right.
