1.5 lb system, recovered 1.34 lb. So it was .16 low, just a hair over 10% low.

After a 10 minute drive on the highway its significantly cooler than it was previously capable of

It definitely "felt" better driving home, but maybe im just optimistic? We'll see tomorrow if it does better at lunch time and in the afternoon after sitting in the sun all day.

The photos show the same delta temp drop from ambient, so it didn't change anything from a measurable standpoint?

Patman,

I must be good to know that your levels/pressures are where they should be and that it was indeed low on charge.

Hopefully it will be much improved when you try it tomorrow.

If I remember my numbers, I can't get mine down to 40 F at 75 F.

Good Luck

Its about 2* cooler. And highway was never an issue. I'll get some daytime heat city temperature test tomorrow

Your findings kind of reinforce what I have suspected for years, Ford is intentionally undercharging the A/C systems in their vehicles. If they leave out an eighth of a pound of refrigerant per vehicle, that is a huge savings per year. Afterall 85-90% of owners will either not notice or never complain, so it's a win-win for ford.

My 07 had weak A/C from day 1, I tossed in a can of 134A from vatozone and it froze me out whenever I needed it to.

89 ambient at lunch today. Got down to 49 in the 5 min city trip. A few stop lights and never exceed ed 50mph

Not sure if it would continue to drop or jot. I shut it off and went in for food.

Patman,

Let us know how it works out. Food would have come first for me too.

Take Care

On a 1.5# system, would it be expected to recover 100%? When changing oil, is every bit of oil recoverable?

Don't forget gauge error:

1. Error in Ford's measurement when filling at factory (probably very small since they calibrate and track gauge calibration)
2. Error in the gauge used to measure the amount recovered

For instance, start with 1.50 lbs. Now consider Ford's gauge being off by ±3%. They put in 1.455 lbs in reality, but their gauge green lights the fill.

Now, when recovering, the gauge used reads off by ±4%. Now you are down to a reading of 1.3968 lbs. See how quickly the difference can be attributed to gauge error?

BTW I love how recovery scales tout their 'resolution' but seldom mention ANYTHING about accuracy. Sure it boasts 2 gram resolution, but for all we know the accuracy can be off by 10% or more!

EXAMPLE:
TIF 9010A is a revised and updated version of the classic TIF Slimline scale, which brings greater performance, reliability and usability to the trade. With the greatest resolution in the industry, and no compromise on capacity, this unit offers features and specs that you won't want to do without. The TIF Slimline scale is compact in design, completely portable with extreme accuracy. Features include touch key controls, auto zero, three display modes Lbs. /oz. Decimal Lbs. Kilograms, very high resolution – 0.1 oz./0.005 Lbs. /2 grams, and a 110 Pound/50kg capacity. Can be used with all refrigerants and the removable control box has a prop stand or hanging hook for a variety of uses. Compatible with TIF 9020 for automatic capability. This is a new item.

The 1.5lb capacity is just refrigerant weight. The oil is measured in ounces as a separate charge, and drained during recover prior to final recovery weight.

Ajsturtz thanks for reminding me about the possibility of scale errors each direction, not something I have really considered before.

98 ambient, Max AC Fan 3 in the city 10 - 15 minutes I got it down to 48* felt about the same temperature once I got on the highway, and temp only slightly dropped.

I've also noticed the fans are turning on sooner at first startups, which indicates the pressures are where the should be with the additional refrigerant

The electric engine cooling fans don't turn on max right away. Used to be about 30 to 45 seconds delay now it's more like 10 to 15 seconds after startup.
