took it another step in the right direction after another forum member suggested I do the pipe insulation mod.
This is the link I stole the idea from. Of course I went a step further than he did

I did single layer over both charge and suction hoses, and double walled, plus a layer of foil backed foam up against the fire wall near the top of the valve cover

Got her down to 46/47 with 96 ambient (fan3 Max AC) on my normal 10 mile commute mostly highway

FWIW it sat all day in the sun, without the sun shade on the window, so it also had much more dash heat to cool off prior to feeling cooler

When I had my 2012 it would not cool worth a darn. I added a can of 134 and it would run you out.
I'm not telling you to add freon, I'm telling you I did.

Possibly a dumb question, but is it possible to overfill the system with the refrigerant? Or can you just add a can in there with no worries?

Yes you can overfill. And it can take even longer to cool off if the refrigerant can't move easily through the system

Yes, you can over fill! It will probably raise the pressure in your system and can cause it to burst a hose and on the new thinly made, light weight, compressors it can cause them to warp and cause excessive wear on them. Ask me how I know! Two words - BMW $2500.

Good to know. Then I'll probably start with the insulation technique.

By the way, I've been using the Max A/C button lately and the air is noticeably cooler. I used to always forget about that setting.

My '07 SCab and '11 SCab have both worked great in 100 degree weather with 70% humidity.
