My 2010 F150 did the exact same thing to me the other morning and I almost didn't get stopped before I backed out in front of a car. This is the only thread that I could find that mentioned it. It's obviously not a ecoboost only problem if it is affecting my 2010 too. Has anyone found a good answer to what is causing this problem? Sounds like a major issue that should be looked at as a possible recall by Ford before someone gets seriously hurt or killed because their truck won't stop.

Welcome to the site, Western111; I'd like to see what I can do to help. As a next step, I'd recommend making an appointment at your dealership so they can inspect. How many miles are on your truck currently?

Check the hose that supplies vacuum to your brake booster. I believe there is a check valve on it that maintains negative pressure in the booster. If it stuck the pressure in the booster would be equal to atmosphere and you would not have any brake assist until the pressure was built back up.

If yours isn't an ecoboost I don't believe there is a vacuam pump, what engine for you have?

Ecoboost trucks vacuum pumps should all be fixed for free, because they are ALL going bad! Sometimes just out of warranty too??? How great is that!

Crystal,

My truck currently has 80,000 miles on it. I checked the brake pads and they are all in good shape and do not need replacing. I usually prefer to work on my own vehicles unless it is something that has to be taken care of at the dealer. And to be perfectly honest I don't trust my local dealer after all the trouble my brother has had with them trying to get his 2011 Ecoboost F150 worked on.

My truck has the 5.4 but I am experiencing a very similar problem out of my truck when it is cold.

Thanks for responding, Western111. Let me know if you decide to go the dealership route; I'll be happy to do what I can to help, including finding some alternate dealers near you, if needed.

If I knew that they could find the problem I wouldn't mind taking it in. Unfortunately in my experience with something that isn't constantly re-occurring they give it back saying that they could not locate the problem. It sounds like it is common on the Ecoboost but I am not sure why the exact same problem would occur on my truck since it has a 5.4L engine.

I certainly don't know either, but I'd sure be taking it to the dealer anytime the problem occurred. You want a "paper trail" that there IS a problem, and that you tried to get it fixed in the (hopefully never) event that lack of braking causes you to have an accident.

From your posts, it's pretty certain you're not going to be able to fix it on your own.

Same problem...TWICE

Hello and thanks for this useful post. I experienced this exact scenario while backing out of my garage for the first time in early April. We'd just acquired our particular truck (2012 F150 SCREW Lariat, 3.5L EcoBoost, 'long' box, off road package) after trading in our 2010 with the inferior 5.4L. VERY happy with our new truck except for this braking issue.

Dealer replaced the vacuum pump assembly under warranty and all was fine...until yesterday. Same problem has manifested itself again, and almost cost me one of my newly installed towing mirrors. I have an appointment with same dealer this Wednesday to hopefully remedy the problem.

I noticed an article today with regard to our braking problems particular to our trucks (2011-12 with EcoBoost) that spoke of a possible recall action. I will update when next repair is complete, but I'm hoping this post will draw the attention from the Ford rep I've seen respond to several posts in this thread as I'm now out of warranty except for powertrain.

Will this forthcoming repair be covered under the previous repair done under warranty? I can't even imagine experiencing this scenario with my 6500 lb. travel trailer neatly secured to the truck! Any assistance from the Ford rep would be appreciated. I'll be driving the truck to the Ford dealer in Bismarck, ND as they have always been above reproach with sales and service.
