Tailgate Emblem On Fenders?

I'm a fan of the clean look, with that being said I'd like to get an answer on weather or not the tailgate emblem will work on the fender. I know they both have holes behind them but are there holes behind the FX2 part of the emblem?

Thanks

Wayne

I would love to know the answer to this as well. I need to plug the holes in my fenders, but I really don't want the part of the emblem with the trim level. Don't want to advertise it's an XL, don't want to lie and say it's not.

Anyway x2 for info on this!

Thanks Wayne for posting the question.

The tailgate emblem doesn't have the same alignment pins as the fender emblems. You would either have to cut the tabs off the tailgate emblem or try to widdle them down to fit the round holes on the fender.

I dont mind cutting the taps off the tailgate emblems to apply them to the fenders. Thats what 3M double sided tapes for. I just need to know if the trim level part of the emblem has holes behind it.

The tailgate F-150 emblems CANNOT BE USED ON THE FENDERS.

Cutting-off the tabs is fine, HOWEVER, the mounting surface of the emblem is not flat and is contoured to match the groove in the tailgate where it mounts.

That -AND- ... It's shorter than the F-150 portion of the fender emblem(s).

More betterer option would be to just cut the model designation tab from the fender emblem, smooth the edge, and re-mount it.

If anyone is interested ... Have 1(one) SAP F-150 fender emblem that I've done this to and am willing to sell it. Send a PM.

Z7What ... I just need to know if the trim level part of the emblem has holes behind it.
There are no holes behind the model/trim portion of the fender emblem.

GDM are you certain about that...I ask because my '05 had the locator holes and my '11 MKX had the locator holes behind the fender emblem as well...

Am 100% certain ...

There ARE alignment holes under the F-150 portion of the fender emblems (in fact they're in the same position and distance apart as the 2004-08), HOWEVER ...

As I indicated ...

gDMJoe ... There are no holes behind the model/trim portion of the fender emblem.

Wrong....use the 09 flareside tailgate emblem that is flat....this one is like this because ford was trying to get rid of surplus flareside beds from 04-08 on the new 09 models.... https://www.f150online.com/forums/4944483-post4.html

I have the 5.0 and was upset that the ecoboost and the 6.2 both had emblems and I wanted people to know that my truck did not have the 5.4 so I took a mustang 5.0 emblem and mounted it under my fender badge and I have gotten lots of good feed back on it and it looks pretty sweet.

I have tried this exact thing. I too hate the stock fender emblems and wanted the tailgate emblem on the fender. The 10-13 tailgat emblem wasnt flat across the backside so thats a no go, you would have to run the tailgate emblem off the 09 stepside since it was the older style bed, and the embem was flat. I wanted to try it but didnt have acces to an 09 tailgate emblem, and didnt want to take the emblem off my fender, incase it didnt work, SO...I went to the ford dealer and bought a new 09 tailgate emblem and a new fender emblem. The locating holes in the fenders are too far apart for the tailgate emblem to cover the holes in the fender, its not a large amount of hole that is exposed, but seeing the edges of the locating holes exposed isnt something that I would want to see on my truck. Ill post a pic of the locating holes to show where the pins are located...and kep in mind the holesin the fender are a big larger than the pins, so you actually have more to cover then what you see by just the pins...

Here is a pic to show that te 09 tailgate emblems are infact flat across the backing surface.

The pic' that I was able to find of a 2008 F-150 tailgate emblem shows it being the 2004-8 style of emblem. For lack of a more betterer term - non-slanted and with a rectangle chrome surround. Which is different than the slanted, cut-out-characters of the 2009+

I couldn't find any pic' of a 2009+ flareside tailgate to substantiate your claim ... Do you happen to have one?

All you need to do is order the emblem for a '13 limited. They do not have any model on them, just F-150.
