Replace Window Switch Swap for Auto UP & Down?

My 2010 doesnt have auto up for the windows. I had a 2012 loaner for a week that did and really liked that feature. I was thinking that its likely in the switch itself and not something different in the computer... Anyone know for sure if I'm correct on that? I found the replacement switch online for around $60, but dont wanna just throw that money away if its not going to be any different.

I've never thought of how convenient it would be for all 4 windows to be auto up and down. I'm looking forward to somebody answering this. Sounds like a good weekend mod if the switch is all you gotta replace.

Wouldn't 4 windows require 4 switches ?

Or have u guys got a master switch that controls all your windows?

There is a switchboard for all 4 switches on the drivers door, and you can only order the board-not individual switches. With that said, if you ordered a spare board you might be able to move the switches over.....

Where did you find the switch? Do you have a part number?

back in the 2008 F-150 days guys were doing this mod. It involved more than the switches (IIRC), there was a module that you had to wire in for each window switch that would enable the auto up/down...I think they were using Mustang parts as they had the auto up/down back in 2005....

Amazon Amazon

I used these on my 2010 F150. One unit will control two windows, so for all 4 in a supercrew you need two modules.

The "smarts" for the Auto up/down is in the motor itself not the switch.

Honestly, I don't think it is either the switch or the motor but in a module you wire "in-line" between the switch and the motor. See the link to Amazon above or you can get the modules for other Ford products from Ford.

I'm not positive how the factory auto up/down works - as far as if it's a module, in the switch or in the motor.l

I can say the easiest and probably cheapest way to do it is buy those modules from Amazon. I used them, they work, they're fairly easy to install. They basically splice in between the switch and the motor.

I'm currently in a 2013 rental and I attempted to pull the switches and put them in my 09 FX4... doesn't work... while the switches fit right in, the plugs are different and will not plug into the switch panel... and yes all 4 switches are one unit... it can be done with a DEI module for an aftermarket alarm... the module actually rolls the windows up when you arm the alarm... but it also give auto up auto down at the switch...
