Gauge Cluster Swap

I have a base model (rental) XLT Screw. I was wondering if a fancier Gauge cluster with the computer system is a plug and play with all the extra that the centers odometer screen has to offer.

Cannot be done. The clusters are programmed to each truck individually.

Welcome to the forums, by the way! If you haven't yet seen, before creating threads you can check out the search bar up at the top. Surely there you will find what you're looking for

There are ways to customize your existing cluster...LED conversion, white face overlay.

What about swapping out to a 09 or 10 cluster? I.E. not the new LCD screen but still could add something that looks a bit nicer from like a plat or something?

i had asked this question about my 2112 stx RCSB and was told it would hook to a fx2 style cluster but not sure if the contols on the steering wheel would work with the led screen that comes in the higher end trucks, but that the plugs in the back are the same the only thing that would need to be done would be to program the milage on to your new cluster

2 cents

I'm Jamie and I am a certified Ford tech and currently a service manager. I just bought an 09 f150 and I've been contemplating the cluster swap. Issues are... the led clusters are controlled by a 4 arrow/ ok button on the left of the steering wheel. Yes, as stated above the clusters are programmed vehicle specific but with Ford's IDS, you can perform programmable module installation and yes, according to Ford, the instrument cluster is a module. Ford does not recommend swapping any module from one vehicle to another, but it can be done. Ford recommends, if doing module upgrades, buying the desired module new. These clusters can be upgraded, but I don't currently see a way around swapping the steering wheel, clock spring, and column harness to do so. If I find a work around, I will post it.

Well, today, i just swapped out the gauge cluster from the stx standard cluster to the lcd display cluster and everything works, even without the arrows and ok buttons, the factory steering wheel buttons can move the cursor on the display. I paid 70 bucks for the cluster and couldnt be happier!!!

I actually upgraded my cluster on my 14 STX earlier this summer. I bought a cluster with higher miles and drove it until I hit the exact miles on the cluster and installed it. upgraded my steering wheel buttons, everything was plug and play. You do need to make sure the cluster you buy is 2wd or 4wd. The only issue I found is the compass does not work on the display and can't figure out how to get it to work. Any ideas from the Ford Techs?

just this afternoon just to see!!! I swapped my 2010 XL cluster with a 2009 XLT cluster both being 2wd non 4X4.....My truck would not start (turn over) & the anti-theft lite stayed on!! All gauges appeared to function except the mileage which displayed the donor's mileage....even door ajar was working but as I said "NO START" "Good Day"

Anyone do this on a 2010. I've got a Lariat S-Crew built late 2010, and would be interested in the swap.
