2012 F150's
The entire truck body and chassis was all new for 2009, the power trains were all updated with all new engines for 2011. I would not expect any real major changes till 2014 model year. At that point I would expect a lighter weight possibly smaller more fuel efficient version to meet the next round of CAFE requirements. I doubt the F150 gets any larger or more capable then they are today. At least as long as our government has a say in it.
The guy above just stated payload changes. This beefs up the thickness of the frame rails, adds seven-lug wheels (and corresponding larger 10.25-inch gear set), heavy-duty shock absorbers, springs and battery, additional engine cooling, oil-to-air auxiliary transmission cooler and a more aggressive 4.10 axle ratio. (ALL RUMORS UNTIL CONFIRMED BY FORD!!)
Sounds like it will be much more capable for towing and hauling. These are things trucks are built for. If you don't need that then there are SUVs/Vans that can haul people, small boats, and get 25 mpg. If you need a truck and want one that gets 18+ (Never owned a 4x4 truck that got more than 18 and only one of seven that even got the 18) on the highway, then this is a great option. I expect the MPG to drop to 14/20 but still a hell of a truck.

I hope they changed the wood color on Lariat again. It would be awesome if the wood trim looked more like the Platinum.
Ford is going to be selling a lot more Lariats this year.
I KNOW! That light colored woodgrain looks HORRIBLE, especially with the black interior. But I don't think they'll change too much other than maybe a new color scheme and wheels. If I was ready to get a new one, I'd go get the '11 in the next month or two for the great year end deals.
I keep trying to tell myself that I like the new light Lariat wood trim, but something is just a little bit off. On the doors it looks ok. But around the stereo it keeps reminding me of the Family Truckster. Please, Ford, make the change.
The changes for 2012 will be huge if you want the SuperCrew 6.5' bed with heavy-duty payload. On Lariat, will they use the new 7 lug aluminum wheels from 2011 or have a Lariat exclusive version?
One thing in 2011 you couldn't get with the heavy-duty payload is the off-road package. So you might have to make the choice between off-road with e-locker, or more payload.

My poor uncle ordered a new 2011 F150 Lariat earlier this year. He sold his 2009 to my dad and a day later went to pickup the 2011 and immediately wanted the 2009 back, but he took the 2011 because the powertrain changes made him happy enough to get over the awful wood. I told him to buy a Platinum, but he thinks they're too flashy.
I know he's excited to buy a 2012 if the woodgrain changes. He also wants to change from the 5.0 to the EcoBoost. I was all pumped to trade the trusty Silverado for a 2011 but now have been waiting for the 2012 too, because I want a Lariat w/ the EcoBoost and Off-Road. I might have to consider the heavy-duty payload. I hope they use different 7-lug wheels. The new wheels on the 2012 Super Duty Lariat Chrome Package are awesome -- maybe they'll use something similar. Also it would be great if they could include the Off-Road package on the heavy-duty. It's almost a requirement for me. I've always got the Z71 package with my GMs and would like an Off-Road package.
I'm really, really hoping they change the Lariat woodgrain for 2012. I am sure that they will. It seems Ford has been really good about mixing at least something up each model year to keep things fresh, and I'm sure plenty of people have complained about the wood. I also am hoping for a Royal Red/Maroon color back, but I won't hold my breath.

I have black interior in my 2010 Screw. Although I like the 2010 better than the 2011 white wood, I do like the light wood with the black interior. With the tan interior, it just looks terrible... Cheap. In person, the black looks good in the 2011's.
I was set to get a Superduty this fall for payload reasons, but if this new F150 data is true, I may be able to stick with one. Hopefully, the 7-lug wheels won't look stupid. These types of last minute changes by the oval almost always turn out looking just like that...

Quite often the ratings are changed without actual substance changes. Mfgs sometimes under rate products only to later increase claims and rating without engenering cost. That said the f150 has been available with 7 lug wheels, 3/4 ton type axlels for many many years. It's called the heavy payload pkg and is available right now. But only up to xlt trim. The heavy payload f150 at times and maybe still today has a higher payload rating then the diesel f250. Basicly they are 3/4 tons with half ton body. In 2011 they finally came out with a decent looking 7 lug wheel.

EDIT: XL, XLT, and Lariats get HD Payload package one Supercrews with 6.5 ft beds. This may double Lariat orders. Agree with Rambo.

What would really be awesome for me, would be the extended cab Lariat with the 8 foot bed, if they were to offer such a machine in 2012.
Thats the only reason my work truck is a GMC, is because GM still lets you get a 8ft bed ext cab trucks with all the frills of any other model 1/2 ton.
I would have bought a ford but the base model or even the XLT are somewhat plain and neither offered the sync Nav system and backup camera which as it is now with my GMC I have leather NAV and camera just not Fords Sync and travel link which I could not get from Ford with an 8ft bed.
