Ny2Az - were your lower black bumper pieces painted as well
Nope. OEM satin black.

what was total cost on something like this.
Got a deal on the grille. Bought the moving sale new grille from Josh. Since it had a small crack ( section was actually BROKEN ) with a best offer for MUCH less $$$$$ that retail/wholesale ( $656.45 / $912.50) ...

REPAIR + paint was $200.

RemoAZ - I think the black Plat grille would look cool painted black with the chrome billiet inserts for the grille and bumper. That would keep with the Plat theme.
But ( as vehicle info' and sig' indicate ) I don't have a Platinum. It's a STX 4X4. And I'm stickin' with the black-out ( with a touch-of-class ) theme.

TX Chris - That truck desperately needs to be lowered a tad.
Agree. *Already removed the rear spring spacers.

HOWEVER, it's my daily driver / winter beater.

And lose the running boards...
If lowered ... Agree.

They started life as chromed aluminum and I had them powdercoated satin black.

bansheerider ... Did you have the dealer paint it?
No. Independent shoppe that does customization work.

Is that tuxedo black color?
No. Black Clearcoat ( UA ). *Tuxedo Black Metallic ( UH ) wasn't available until 2010.

Also do you think a chrome grille could be painted?
Yes. HOWEVER, prep' and the right paint are the keys.

The Platinum grille is made-up of
  • surround - thin metal clad that has been chrome plated and brushed.
  • inserts - chrome plated plastic.
  • all layered over and bonded to a black plastic shell.
The shoppe tried soda blasting, however, that just made the chrome more shiney. Ended-up sand blasting with the nozzle held a distance from the surfaces. Etching / bonding primer was used ( details unknown ).

Will have to wait and see if it holds-up. *Which was a concern.

I actually think that it was a different combination than either of those. But I REALLY like the first one.

Anyone have crazy photoshop skills and can put this on a white body? I have a 11 white ecoboost that I am going to black out. Going similart to the blackout thread guy on this board or the other one. There is just too much chrome on my dam truck!
