2011 Dealer rip off
On a fixed price (set by Ford Motor Company) like the OP's "X" plan, I would make it right with the dealer. One, it is the correct way to live life. Two, you will very likely put a huge financial burden on the sales person (guess who is going to pay for the mistake if you don't pay what you should have) if he/she doesn't lose their job over it.
If it was a retail (not A,X,Z plan) deal I would really be inclined to say a deal is a deal.
Now one thing I would do is "let" them put another $500 in your trade and then I would pay the adjusted difference. That way I would not completely let them off the hook.

I like how he hasn't told his boss yet. Sounds to me like he's doing everything he can to try to cover his butt before he has to go admit a mistake. I would have been more inclined to give it back if he would have been civil and not tried to guilt me into returning the money, but since that didn't happen, I'd look for a different dealer to do warranty work and avoid ever going back to this one.
I would be inclined to take them up on their offer of add ons if they throw in free oil changes or maybe the extended warranty. I would be inclided to work the deal so that everyone comes out even, you get a few things you would probably do anyway and the salesman gets to keeps his job. Seems fair to me.
Just an FYI, Ford does audit the dealers as to where the A,D,X, and Z plan pins come from. My sales manager (happens to be a friend and neighbor) called about a month ago to ask where I got my X plan from when I bought my 2010 last february, seemed odd as it was 14 months ago. But bigger corporations have different rules when it comes to accounting.

Update: They called me yesterday still trying to get the $1600. The conversation got heated and he finally said "do you feel good gouging us (the dealership) for $1600?" I almost choked I wanted to laugh so hard! This is after they would not give me $10,000 for my trade-in, and I'm gouging them? He stated there was nothing more he could do and told me he will be contacting his general manager about it. Looks like the general manager is not aware of the situation, but will be soon. I wonder what will happen next? If they call me back I will politely tell them that I no longer wish to speak to them on this subject. I also spoke to a lawyer and he stated deal is a deal. They could take me to court but after everything is said and done it would go to arbitration and they will say probably 50/50 fault and to split the difference. If and when that happens I'm enjoying my new truck!!
Alltho I bought my XLT with the x-plan, the entire deal was made with the dealer just taking my word that I had one.
I had to remind my salesman that he'd never written the number down.
And alltho some will think they didn't give me the discount, I got all associated paper work for x-plan pricing on my unit from the dealer prior to closing the deal.

Loki 5.0, your are misinterpreting the title of the post. They are being the stereotypical stealership and trying to rip me off. They have a team of people to do checks and balances to insure their numbers are correct. They have over 750 new cars on their lot and own 5 different dealerships. They would not give me KBB or NADA value for my truck. They presented me with a price and an offer. I accepted the offer. Money exchanged hands, title/reg processed, contract complete. Do you think they would have given me an extra $1000 for my truck if I called them the next day after buying the truck and told them that I made a mistake and I need an extra $1000? They would choke trying not to laugh at me. I tried to work with them to make sure their paperwork is correct but in the end they wanted a check for $1600. Here is another quote from them when I was talking them "You should have know you were getting a too good of a deal". Really? I should have know? Now they are telling me what I should have know.
Wouldn't the sales manager have to approve the sale price? In my experience, the sales manager puts his/her initials (at a minimum) on the paperwork acknowledging the details and agreed upon pricing.

If that car salesman were to get fired over his mistake, im sure he could/will just walk down to the next dealership or furniture store and have a job in no-time, those guys are a dime a dozen. I wouldnt lose sleep over it!!!
IMO...
You should pay it..... But...
I don't think I wouldn't pay it either..
They should have checked, and been clear about what they were doing...
A signed paper, is a signed paper...
They will make the money back on your trade-in....
Lets just hope the Karma Police don't get you.

If the Karma Police were doing their job every dealership in the USA would have burst into flames and all those "window etching fees" and "dealer appearance packages fees" would be returned.
lmfao
