Plain and simple you qualify for X-plan not A-plan. Go back and pay the money that is due, that is what an honest person would do.

Yes they should have checked the pin before making the deal but they probably assumed you knew what pin you had. I would be willing to bet at some point in the deal the sales person said "A plan" or showed you the inovice that said A plan with the pricing on it.

No one gives a damn about the dealer until they need/want something.

That's a dealer mistake. You owe them nothing. I like to believe I'm a nice guy with morals, but I don't tell someone they undercharged me for something just so I can feel all warm and fuzzy. It's their screw-up, let them deal with it.

They have no legal option. That is why they are trying "to work with you" by asking you to buy some options from them. A-plan/x-plan it doesnt matter. Once the paperwork was signed and cash was handed over then deal was done. Just because they gave you a-plan price but you gave them x-plan pin doesn't mean you are responsible for the difference. Now i am not saying i wouldn't listen to there complaint and work with them on this. I have a good relationship with my main dealer, and i would try to reach a happy medium, but if you did not decieve them in any way then stand your ground and dont let them make you think you owe them money.

I will give you example of how bad dealerships work. When i bought my shelby in 2009, i was given a price of 43,200. In that price was a 900 charge for "prep work" to paint job. I didn't care because it was 4000 dollars off of MSRP. Well when we did the paperwork a couple days later, i look over everything and lo and behold i was charged 900 again for prep work, i ended up paying 43,100 for the car and 1,800 of that was for "paint prep". I didn't whine or cry about it. They pulled a fast one on me, but from now on i read every word on the purchase before i sign. Whatever you do, don't feel bad for them.

Just curious - do any of you who are telling him to tell the dealer to pound sand own your own business?

Just trying to help you see what it looks like with the shoe on the other foot..........

Update: They called me yesterday still trying to get the $1600. The conversation got heated and he finally said "do you feel good gouging us (the dealership) for $1600?" I almost choked I wanted to laugh so hard! This is after they would not give me $10,000 for my trade-in, and I'm gouging them? He stated there was nothing more he could do and told me he will be contacting his general manager about it. Looks like the general manager is not aware of the situation, but will be soon. I wonder what will happen next? If they call me back I will politely tell them that I no longer wish to speak to them on this subject. I also spoke to a lawyer and he stated deal is a deal. They could take me to court but after everything is said and done it would go to arbitration and they will say probably 50/50 fault and to split the difference. If and when that happens I'm enjoying my new truck!!

I don't buy for a second that they don't have 1628 worth of profit built in to any prices, including "A" plan. I'd tell them to pound salt, and find another dealer to service it for you from this day forward. What nerve they have to call you. They're gonna get that back from your trade in, and then some anyways.

Unless you have a conscience, and feel bad for the poor sap who may very well get fired over this, and his young children will have to eat two day old rice from under the cardboard shelter they will be living in "because Daddy lost his job".

I wouldn't pay.

Did you walk out with the title to the new truck? I had to wait a few days for mine.

Did you know at the time the sales contract was being drawn up that they were goofing up billing-A plan when you only qualified for X-plan?

If so then pay the difference they are asking for and you'll maintain a reputation as a straight shooter.

Obviously there is a lot of advice here. To answer a previous question, I was a small business owner for quite a while and about to start up another business. I have under bidded a few jobs before hand but I can never return to the customer and demand them to pay extra for a product that I already agreed a price on. If I did that it was my fault and I learned my lesson. Move on dealer.
The bad thing is that more than likely the dealer is about to lose his job or at least get punished for it. Listen to your attorney and you will be fine. I hate screwing up myself but I take it like a man and learn from it. Hopefully the dealer can do the same.

Actualy...yes I do...and there has ben times we paid invoices twice...and if we didn't catch it...no one generally would tell us.

The fact that it's a dealership makes it real easy for me to say pound salt. Different situation...might be different. Dealerships "most of the time" go out of there way to rip you off. At least in the Louisiana area. I have no love for Dealerships. Not only do they generally try to rip you on the sale...god forbid you need work after warenty is out. Hello 04-08 sparkplug change 450$ + 100 per broke plug in my area. One time there was a sales guy that was a friend of a friend...so my guard was down...and he so far to date was trying to rip me off the most.

And I understand a dealer has to make money just like other business. It's just that dealers generally try to rip you off and lie to tour face.

Dealers have experience selling thousands of cars and lots of legal expertise helping them develop their sales contracts. I'm sure if there is a legitimate way for them to get additional funds, they will.
