Buying new truck, check engine light came on

I was buying a 2010 4x4 Lariet F150 which the dealer had to go get from another dealer. Just before getting back with the truck, the check engine light came on. It was Saturday and no service techs were there. The manager thinks it is a bad coil pack but they will check it out Monday morning. Needless to say, I did not sign the papers.

Are bad coil packs a common problem and should I even move forward with purchasing the truck if it is already having problems?

Thanks

That's a bad omen, but I doubt its a coil pack and it could be a number of things. I would wait to find out what it was before I call it off.

Flux capacitor.......

Had a bad omen with one I test drove, brought one out to the house to test fit in the garage (knew it would fit, just curious as to how it would look). Pulled the truck out to put my Accord back in the garage and parked the truck out front and shut it off. Wouldn't restart.....lights and everything worked but she wouldn't kick over, went inside for a min and came back out and it started right up... took it back to the local dealership and told them and they were like "well you got it back" and 5 minutes later I left and never went back...

Have them give you the exact code before you buy it. If it's something simple/stupid then buy it if it's a good price. If it's something major on the code tell them to either stuff it or give you a giant discount.

Just my $0.02

Oh yea, I think they have COPS (coil on plug) not coil packs. That is why the guy is a salesman and not a tech.

Do not pass go. Do not collect $200 dollars. Pick out a different one.

I am waiting to see what the actual problem is and will ask for the exact code that it is reading. If it is minor then I may move forward with the deal as it is a good price but it is something other than a "bolt on" type thing then I will pass. They have a demo with 4100 miles that I may take if they will price it right. What kind of additional price reduction should go along with a demo lariet 4x4? I was thinking in the neighothood of $1500 - $2000 additional off the already discounted price. Is this in the ballpark or am I off in left field? They were trying to knock another $300 off which is why I said no way, go get the new one.

What is the norm for a demo discount?

My first thought for the check engine light was that the wiggling pin was off center of the wobbling shaft but after further consideration I figured technology had passed that by.

Demo truck= used truck, should be priced accordingly I would think.

I grew-up in a car dealership; my dad was the service manager. He always said, never buy a demo. They get used and abused from my experience. Even by me, a 14 y/o kid, at the time.

I drive a Demo from 2005. And it had close to the MAX miles that "they" allow a vehicle to have ran up before they sell it. I think it was like 3,600. I bet a lot of Demos get abused and "tested" hard. I think I got a good one.
