You are welcome. And yes, buy one now before your next oil change, or you will always be chasing your tail. Order from where I said above and use the discount code. It has been around for about 5 years but STILL WORKS. Order two from the other place and get free shipping.

A thing of beauty:

Any word on the oil analysis? I am anxious to here what they say as it may have me changing my oil sooner, of course I only have 500 miles on my truck.

I just ordered a valve for my truck too! Wish I would have found out about this sooner.

Just did my first oil change on my '10 4.6 3V (1500 miles) and what a mess!!!!

My drain pan was just a little too small for all of the oil and it over flowed a small amount. The filter was tight, but a strap wrench broke it loose after a lot of grunting. The filter drain plastic thingy directed oil all over the place. I ended up removing it in order to clean up the mess (two 8MM bolts). After I got it off, it looks like the filter change would be easier with it out of the way. I think I'll try that next time. I used a half a roll of paper towels and a can of brake parts cleaner just to clean up the garage floor!

I then cleaned the cross member and plastic thingy and reinstalled it after filling with oil and checking for leaks. Overall it took 1 hr but I also vacuumed the interior and checked my tire pressure.

Thanks. I will probably dump the factory at 3k and then switch over to Mobil One, ran that in my 04 and changed it every 6,000 miles. My driving is about 90% highway with no traffic (God Bless Central Illinois).

I'm sticking with 7500 miles (5000 miles during the summer as I tow my boat quite often) and MC 5w20 semi-synthetic.

7 quarts MC 5w20: = $11.95 (5 QT jug) + 2/5 x ($11.95) = $16.73
FL820S = $4.15

Total: $20.88

But this will likely start another discussion on what oil and filter to use.

Bottom line: your truck, your money, do what makes you feel good.

If you do that, use the EP formulation, not the standard stuff.

EP? Hmmm heard of it, but don't know anything about it. Someone educate me.....

My productivity at work has fallen off sharply since I took delivery of my new truck. Oh well.

Mobil 1 EP - the extended performance blend. It has a lot more synthetic in it than the standard blend and lasts longer. It's only about 50 cents more a quart than the standard.

For 7500 mile or less drain intervals, a Motorcraft. A Wix or Purolator is also good. For long drain intervals with synthetic oil, a Mobil 1, K&N, or Amsoil.

Thanks for the comeback on the filter.

But, what does " a lot more synthetic in it" mean when comparing to other synthetic oil? Does bottled water have a lot more water in it compared to tap water etc?

Thanks

Mobil 1 is a Group 3 dino synthetic. It's really not that much different than the Motorcraft synthetic "blend". The EP has a lot of Group 4 true synthetic in it. Group 3 is allowed to be marketed as "synthetic" only in the US.
