Took my first test drive in a 2010 today...

I drove a Blue Flame FX4 Supercab today, as my lease is up in december.

I loved it. Interior is beautiful, seats were plush, cab is extremely quiet..

Looking to get into a Supercab to save some coin, although I like my SuperCrew, I use my truck for 80% business and I need the coin more then the extra doors.

My current truck is a 4.6L XLT Crew, It's been a great truck for the past 3 years, but due to my business expanding and some new equipment I could really put a 5.4L to work. I will say, with my Edge tuner, I didn't knotice a whole lot of power difference in the 5.4L, but I did think it must be pretty good when you tune the 5.4L.

The sad thing is, I bought my 07 at the prime time, interest rates were low, It was the end of the model year, and even with a low buy-out, I was only paying about $450 a month. The numbers on this FX4 work out to $757 a month, as much I love the truck, I can't justify that much.

So despite the truck being very nice, It was a depressing trip to the dealership. Even a similiar truck, just in the XTR package, I'd only save $50 a month, and the interior looks like **** compared to the FX4.

SIGH. It's either come up with $15k for a downpayment or just buy-out my current truck and keep on truckin!

Just to make this more then a rant, What would you do?

BTW - The window sticker stated 25MPG on the highway?! Is this close to being realistic? That's pretty amazing.

Well, I'd consider just buying out your current truck and keep on truckin' as you say. It might work out better financially. But, since its used for business, that will of course factor into things. Do you really need a new truck for your business or will your current one be fine? In other words, would your business greatly benefit from having a more powerful truck?

Regarding the 25 MPG, that is Imperial gallons that you see on the sticker here in Canada. That works out to about 20 U.S. MPGs. And yes, that is certainly doable. My truck runs between 11 and 12 L per 100Km on the highway which is between 19 and 21 US MPG. I average around 17 to 18 MPG with the mix of highway and city driving I do.

I don't neccissarily need a new truck, but I do need more power and higher weight rating. I just bought a new trailer that holds stationary equipment for my business, I don't tow it everyday, but about once a week, and it's becoming more frequent and business grows. The trailer with equipment and materials is nearing 10,000lbs. I know this is pushing into F250 territory, but even with employee pricing and all the other benefits on, the budget doesn't allow for even a leftover 09, as the price still stands at about $50,000.

It's either buy used (buy out the truck) and try to pay it off asap to avoid a payment plus the possibility of fixes, or buy new and finance over the period of time warranty covers any chance of major repairs.

Plus the 6.5ft bed on the Supercab is better suited to my work then the 5.5ft I have as well.

Without a trade-in, you need a much larger down payment to make it more reasonable. Do you have anything you can sell?

I could never justify that amount for ANY car payment. I pay $275/month for my truck

If I were to update to a new one...I would save for a down payment, although you only have till December so it makes it harder.

I looked into selling mine and putting about 10K down on a new one and my payment would be around $350/month for a fully loaded FX4.

If you could get the payment down I would say go for it....just don't settle for a truck you are not 100% happy with or you will always be wishing you had got the one you wanted.

I'm from Canada too and I've touched 25 MPG using extremely conservative driving techniques. I make regular trips from NB to PEI and I usually average about 22 MPG for the trip and with a mix of city and rural driving I am hovering around 18 MPG. Thats with the 5.4 and LT rated 33" tires.

How are the prices comparing these day between Canada and the US?

The list on the FX4 is about $46,000 and change, with it getting down to $30-33 in incentives (Employee pricing, ford credit incentive, loyalty bonus and delievery allowances)

Well, I tend to think that if it is a need then you could justify the purchase sooner than later and here is why. Interest rates were 1.9 for 72 last month on the F150 through Ford. If you save the money and use your savings account for earned interest you are not getting more than 1 to 2%. You may get lucky and get 0% for 60 months if they really need to move the 2010's. 1.9 for 72 months on 40K is about 588 a month ROUGHLY, so I have no idea where that ridiculous monthly payment came from. I think 588 a month for a 46,000 truck is very reasonable, and a deduction as well.

I see the incentive finance rate has changed but if your credit is even average you can get finance through Ford, then refinance for 3.9 or 4.9 at your credit union and take the cash incentives. 35,000 at 4.9 is even better at 562.00 if you wanted to go 72 mos. Good luck!

Where you located?

It sucks but our bank rates have jumped back up, been up since last winter. Looking at 6.99-7.99% they tell me.

I don't get it. A Scab (not Screw)FX4 should run around $30K U.S $. If you financed the whole thing for 60 months, you are only looking at around $525/mo., depending upon your credit score.

6.99 is very high right now. Most new car loans are around 3.9-4.5.

I have been shopping for the past two or three weeks for a loaded 2010 F150 5.4 Lariat screw 4x4. I was able to finalize a deal on Friday and we picked up truck yesterday. Truck had 4.6 mi on the odometer. Build date of July, delivered in Aug. Top MSRP was $47,960. Sale price was $35,167 after all the rebates/discounts we could come up with. Our bank rate is 3.99%.
