The dodge was brand new with less than 100 miles on it when i test drove it. My ford now has 11,000 with no signs of better anything regarding tranny shift points or throttle response. regarding price. i bought the truck in Mendham,NJ. Unfortunately, when my deisel truck engine ate 4 valves and decided to basically give up when i was within 200ft of the dealership. i pulled in, they gave me $15,000 for my deisel as a trade and an hour later i drove home. the sticker was $48,000. i was 30 minutes from home and i needed a vehicle. basically, i had no choice and i was stuck in one of the most expensive areas in the country. Can anyone tell me where i can get more info on the PHP programmer? does the manuf. have a website or do i need to go thru a distributer?

Yeah they def had you over one there. Sticker on mine was $52 and got it for around $42. Shift point are strange on the 6 speed. I don't know if it's to gain you better mpg or just crappy shift points but mine will seem to hold one gear for to long before changing. As an example pulling a trailer up a hill the truck won't change down until I get right near the top of the hill! I have had no problem with throttle response though. The truck revs rig when I put my fort down. There is a delay though between that and the truck changing down but I have found that on almost all auto's. Our RR Sport and Merc are exactly the same.

A tuner will definitely solve the hesitation and do a lotmore. www.powerhungryperformance.com. They are one of our sponsors.

GroovyChick is one of the owners of PHP.

I'm running a 93 octane tow tune for the summer to drag my travel trailer, and even as a daily driver, the tune makes this truck extremely light on it's feet. Get the 93 octane performance tune and enjoy. FWIW, the 93 octane jumps the mpg enough to at least pay for the difference in fuel, all while getting the performance. The 5.4L is no racecar, but at 6,700 pounds empty, what should anyone expect?

Only problem with that is 93 octane isn't available everywhere. You would also need to have an 89 tune available to load to cover all 48 lower states. Best I can get here is 92, and most stations top out at 91. Casey's doesn't even have that, 89 is the best they have. High altitude mountain gas is lower yet - it starts out at 85 and can top out at 89.

From what im reading, quite a few folks are very satisfied with their trucks and hopefully after a few small mods, i will be too. Too the guy who goes by BARRITIA, your a moron and your people skills suck. your the kinda guy i'd like to run off the road if i only had a faster truck..... LOL so keep trucking ya old geeser.

91 is the most common high octane here in Okla. but I'd imagine the tune works the same regardless of the octane. The effects of high altitude work the same as the high octane, so the tune would probably be fine. Worst case it starts pinging on the lower octane gas and you turn it to the 87 tune until you can work out a fix from Gryphon.

Most "canned" performance tunes are written for 91 octane and if you run 93, you bump the timing to take advantage of it. If it is a custom tune, then it should have been written for what octane is available to you. If you are traveling and only some different octane is all that is available, you adjust the tune accordingly.

I have to respectfully disagree with you rtr. I've never driven a Ram with the 5.7 Hemi. But, I own a new 300 C with the 5.7 Hemi and it (the Hemi) is NOT all that. I'm disappointed in its performance. My old Mustang GT would kill it and I won't even bother with my 5.0, as I know there would not even be a comparison.

I agree. A friend of mine has a 5.7L Hemi in a 300 C and I was disappointed in its performance. After he talked some smack I challenged him to a TT run at the local track against my old 5.0 and he passed. Of course there is no comparing my 5.4L 5500lb truck to a 12 second 5.0L 2900lb Mustang but I couldn't be happier with the performance of the 5.4L. I can however compare it to my 7.4L 97 F 350 and it is every bit as strong as the old 460. I pulled 8500 lbs of trailer boat and gear regularly with that truck and there was never a lack of power when needed.

So you bought the truck because you didnt have a ride home? You do know enterprise will pick you up right?

Id think someone with the $$ to own high high performance bikes, cars, AMG Mercedes, etc would have the $$ to spend $100 on a rental and a then spend the $$ to fix the motor in your diesel. Then you could trade it in at any dealer you liked and bought a truck that didnt suck.

My mate had the srt8 for about 5 month before he sold it. That thing was also a dog. I have never been impressed with any of the hemi's dodge has had in their vehicles in the last few years. Over rated in my eyes.

Too funny.....seriously though, i was tired of repairing the deisel at $6500 per head gasket job x2 within 18 months. that along with a $1,000 computer brain and $500 for a master cylinder. the month prior to trading it in cost me approx. $8000 in repairs. i had enough stress and just got rid of it. As far as i was concerned...they could've had it for $5000. BTW, a rebuilt deisel engine from Ford is approx. $12,000 installed at the dealer. the dealer around hear pays over $8,000 for it themselves. The deisel had 165,000 on it. i drive approx 40,000k a year and everything was starting to go. regarding the dodge, it's entirely possible the hemi truck had a 4:10 because it definately moved well. So, to sum up, fixing the truck was the equivalent to throwing away more money, especially now that deisel fuel is $2.97 a gallon around here.

Its very disappointing to hear this about the Ford diesel. 165,000 miles is barely broken in for a diesel. I have a friend that has a Chevy 2500 HD diesel and is closing in on 650,000 miles. Granted its all highway miles but he's pulling large trailers and mobile homes three/four days a week from NW Indiana to Green Bay, Wi. I always thought is I ever bought a large trailer boat again I would look into a diesel. Not so sure now.

That's a 6.0 problem, but there are ways to make them bulletproof before things go wrong. It just takes money. The 6.4 is better and the 6.7 is shaping up to be the best. It needs more time before anyone knows though.
