I didn't like the idea of gluing the OEM one with factory bulbs to my paint so I used Frost King brand rubber foam weather seal 3/4"x7/16" (Got on Amazon but HD has it) to replace my factory one per what I saw on another site. Tons of rain this winter in CA NW so I replaced mine as insurance against a potential problem couple months ago with my truck closing in on 3yrs old for "winterization". I have never had a leak.
I also dabbed clear rtv silicon with a cue tip into those rivet holes above rear glass and in the seam segment in adjacent track that looked like a "dimpole".
You are correct though in that you will never need to pull the light again especially if you switch to LEDs so silicon is an option as well for 3BL repair.
Haven't touched Sat Ant but moonroof seems to direct flow away from it....but maybe I'll do it to.

Ordered a new housing, completely removed the foam gasket it came with, applied a thick bead of clear silicone and let it set for 24 hours before reinstalling. I replaced all bulbs with LEDs, so I haven't tried to open it. But I doubt it's epoxied to the truck like before. I also put a dab on top of both of the screws to seal that area.

You'd think they would have figured that out by now, huh? Could be worse. My girlfriend has an 08 Subaru Legacy. Those all need need head gaskets around 100k. They're bad from 1992 all the way till 2012. That's just pathetic.

Agreed on the leak issues I read....yet same basic light design and gasket for 10 years plus with no real revisions.

The leaking third brake lights go all the way back to 2004. Just remove the foam gasket and apply a bead of silicone and let it set before reinstalling. Replace the three bulbs in there with LEDs while you're at it. It'll fix the leak and you'll never have to open it again.
I know some are under warranty, but it's very easy and you can do a better job than the dealers will do.

Well, guess it goes back to at least 97! You'd think they would have solved that by now. I guess we will wait and hear about the 2015+.

130% of normal rainfall here and heavy too in storms.....my homemade gasket going strong!

My 2010 started doing the same thing. Problem was the housing and seal is all one piece and over time it had warped. No way to seal it. My mechanic said the best solution was to just buy a whole new assembly and put on rather then try to seal the old one.
