FX4 or STX4x4?

I have a dilemma, I just got a job that includes a car allowance as part of my salary. I have always wanted an FX4 but between the two trucks there is about 3000.00 difference, so I was wondering if the FX4 is worth it? The truck is my personal vehicle as well as my work vehicle so if they want me to travel the different mines where our products are used I have to use my truck, hence the allowance, so its going to see some mileage. Any suggestions?

I have been looking at both the FX4 & STX. The STX is limited to a 4.6L engine and you cannot get it in a Super Crew. The STX is what I am considering since I only want a Super Cab w/ a 4.6L.

You really need to drive both to see what one you really like. Can you get the STX with the center console shifter or is it on the column? I thought the XLT and STX only offered the column shifters. Im a real big fan of the FX4 interior and that is one of the main points why I chose this model over any others. Also like someone else mentioned what engine do you want?

I do extremely light towing and medium hauling and the 2V 4.6 works great for me in my 08 XL Supercrew with the 6.5 foot box.

If you want the 5.4L engine, leather interior, or Center console shifter then you need to get the FX4.

Otherwise the STX can be had with almost all the power options that the FX4 has.

Go to your local dealer and just start test driving trucks.

it depends what you need & want... do you need 4x4, do you need a bigger engine for hauling, if you need a screw or scab, 6.5 bed or 5.5.. i don't do towing but when it snows here that's when i go out & i need the 4x4 to get around here (4x4 is great in the winter, never been stuck). i also love the interior of the fx4's, not sure what the fx2 interior is like.
make your decision based on what you need & then what you want.

I love my STX... It was a great choice for me... This is a personal decision... $3k over the long run is not that much difference... What ever you decide you will love it...

i have had both a 09 crew cab fx4 and now a 2010 stx ext, both are very nice can't go wrong with you choice

but with geting a work allowance and driving high miles i would go for cheaper priced truck that fit your need, manly so you can use the max allowance given to you to pay the truck off faster

so your not stuck with a 2 yr old truck with 100k and still owe 25 grand and need a new truck

If you need the truck for actual work, I would avoid the FX4. I couldn't bring myself to mess up the interior and if you're going to be in and around mines I'd imagine you could get pretty dirty. If you need the 5.4 look into an XL (you can't get it in the crew cab though).

I couldn’t agree more this response. If you are going to use it for work and put high miles on it, I would certainly go with the less expensive STX. The FX4 has more “fluff” and in my opinion is truck I would want strictly for personal use. You can still get some very nice options in the STX, such as Sync, and satellite radio.

I would also ask if your company receives a discount from Ford on new vehicles. For example my company offers the “X-Plan”.
