To those with tuners. Please respond

I am looking for feedback directly from people who have experience with tuners on the 09-10 F-150. If you dont have one please dont respond and tell me to search. In previous posts everyone always says tons of members have them but I am never able to locate any of the reviews. I have been curious as to what you guys are running and how you like it.

Im sure im not the only one who is sick of this sloopy trans. Its always hunting for the right gear and has some serious delays when shifting sometimes. Sure some extra power would be great but I really just care about getting the trans problems worked out.

Thanks guys for reading!!

2009 F-150 FX4 Screw 6.5 bed.

I am running an X3 with 3 custom tunes from VMP tuning. Running the 87 Performance tune right now and it is sweet. Really helps the throttle response and the 6 speed tranny shifts much better now. No more laggy shifts and constant searching for gears. I am very happy with it but have noticed a slight pinging/detonation around 4K rpms. I think that it is because of the winter gas mixed with the 10% ethanol we have around here. Gonna fill up with 89 next tank to see if it goes away. Justin is great to deal with and is very helpful.

do tuners make that much of a difference now? I remember back in the 90's when tuners really didn't do much for a gas powered vehicle, this is my first non diesel in quite a while and have wondered if the newer tuners make a difference

I know I've had some custom chips in my old powerstrokes that made a TON of power, didn't know if thats changed for the gas burner world

I personally prefer a custom tune vs. a canned tune/strategy. I like knowing that whatever mods I make to my truck, air intake, exhaust, cams, etc that I can have my tune customized to meet my needs. A call or e-mail is all it would take to modify my tune to any changes I make. My truck is currently stock and the tune I got from VMP almost makes me not want to change anything. I am very happy with the way the truck drives now.

How about listing some prices that you are paying for these tuners and links where you purchased them?

Probably better to do a Google search on the particular tuner you want - that way you get to price search. I don't have a tuner right now (hell I still don't have my truck back from the dealer on a transmission issue), but damn sure looking to get one. I found the HyperTech Max Energy through AutoAnything for $333 with free overnight shipping. You have to add it to your cart to see the price, but it's the lowest price I've seen plus they have a one year price match policy.

Can you erase the custom turner setting from the truck for warranty work without the dealer ever knowing you had it customized? Also, is the SCT tuner CARB (California) legal? I need something since the tranny on my truck is driving me nuts! Constant searching for gears or it bogs down at 2000rpm and you have to almost floor it to downshift... ugh

Yes, you can. It is recommended to return to factory settings before going into the dealer - not because of the tuner, but if the dealer happened to flash your ECM, you'd loose the HyperTech programming that was installed. You'd have to send the programmer back to Hypertech (unless they can do it on-line now) to be re-set.

I had a HyperTech Power Programmer III on my 06 KR, and it made a world of difference. I got my Max Energy day before yesterday, but the truck in still in the shop.
